Brummitt Weekly
December 6th 2024, Issue 18
Attendance Update
Due to last week's shortened two-day school week, we do not have any A+ Attendance Award winners to celebrate. However, we wanted to take this opportunity to review Duneland’s attendance policy and highlight some key points to ensure everyone is informed.
Key Attendance Guidelines:
- If your student will be absent, please call the main office to notify us. This ensures the absence is not marked as unexcused.
- Each student is allowed four parent-verified absences per semester. After these four are used, any additional absence that is not excused will be marked as unexcused.
- Absences verified with a doctor’s note are considered excused and WILL NOT count against the parent-verified or unexcused totals. Please provide the main office with the doctor’s note after your student's visit to the doctor.
- A student is classified as “habitually absent” after 10 unexcused absences and “chronically absent” after a total of 18 absences in a school year. Both can significantly impact academic performance.
Let’s work together to ensure consistent attendance, as it plays a vital role in your student's success at school!
Quarter 2 Standards Based Grading Information
As Quarter 2 comes to a close on Friday, December 20th, we want to provide you with important information regarding the standards covered during these nine weeks. Below, you will find links detailing the expectations for Quarter 2 standards:
These resources are designed to help families better understand what students have been learning and the expectations for mastery. We encourage you to review them and reach out to your student's teacher with any questions or for further clarification.
Holiday Shop Starts Next Week
One of our students' favorite times of the year is coming up...The Holiday Shop! We are still in DESPERATE need of volunteers to make it a success. Kindergarten & First Grade shop during the first time slot and we will need ALL HANDS ON DECK for that particular time! Please consider volunteering your time!!
If you want your student to participate, please send them with money on their shopping day!
Winter Weather Reminder
As we transition into colder weather, we want to remind you of our snow play guidelines. To play in the snow at recess, students must wear a coat, gloves/mittens, snow boots, snow pants, and a winter hat. Without these items, students will need to remain on the blacktop.
Additionally, please ensure your child brings a heavy coat daily, as we go outside unless it’s raining or the wind chill is below 10°F. It may also be helpful to send chapstick and lotion with your student to keep in their locker or classroom, as the colder weather can cause dryness.
Thank you for helping us keep students safe and comfortable during the winter months!
