As we move through the first months of our school year, the HR department wants to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. Whether you've returned to a familiar setting, taken on a new role, or are just settling into the rhythm of this academic year, we hope your start has been smooth and positive.

Handbook

We've shared the 2024-2025 Employee Handbook with all employees on Tuesday, September 10. Please take a moment to review the handbook, as it contains important guidelines and policies that apply to everyone. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to reach out to the HR Department. We’re here to help and ensure you have everything you need to succeed. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Discretionary Leave

Leave taken at an employee’s discretion that can be scheduled in advance is considered discretionary leave. An employee wishing to take discretionary personal leave must submit a Discretionary Leave Form to his or her principal or supervisor at least three days in advance of the anticipated absence. Discretionary personal leave will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis and will be subject to the following limitations:

  • Discretionary leave may not last more than three consecutive workdays, except with special approval from the Superintendent or designee for extenuating circumstances. (Board Policy DEC Local)
  • Discretionary leave may not be taken on the following key days: the day before a school holiday; the day after a school holiday; days scheduled for end-of-semester or end-of-year exams; days scheduled for state-mandated testing; or professional/staff development days.

Discretionary leave requests that do not comply with the above must be submitted to the Superintendent or designee via the Discretionary Leave Form. Since learning best occurs when the regular teacher is in the classroom, please plan trips and vacations around the school calendar.

Unapproved leave that is not in accordance with district policy will result in a dock in pay at the employee's regular daily rate.

Update to Local Leave (DEC Local)

The Board of Trustees has approved additional local leave based on employees' service calendars.

11-month employees (207-225 days) - 6 days

12-month employees (226+ days) - 7 days

This new policy aligns the number of local leave days with an employees duration of service.

Red Rover Update (Campus Employees Only)

Please note that you can't use your comp time through Red Rover. All comp time must be entered through Skyward Finance therefore does not come with substitute coverage. If you have questions, please reach out to your campus substitute coordinator.

Comp Time (DEAB Local)

We have updated our procedures regarding comp time to include campus paraprofessionals. As with overtime, please ensure that any comp time is approved prior to accruing. Comp time does accrue at time and half.

Additionally, the Board of Trustees has approved an increase in the allowable comp time hours. The maximum comp time you can accumulate has been raised from 20 to 40 hours.

Please make sure to communicate your plan for the day with your principal.

Homebound Ad

Are you interested in earning extra income while supporting students? LHISD is in need of general and special education teachers during the school year to provide instruction to students who receive homebound services. Responsibilities include coordinating with the campus teachers to provide students support to complete assignments and returning the completed assignments to the campus teachers. Students generally receive 4 hours per week of instruction per week which is scheduled with the parents outside of school hours. Teachers can earn $35.00 per hour and mileage to the student’s home from the campus. If you are interested in being on a list of teachers willing to provide homebound instruction, please reach out to Kimberly de la Houssaye, kdelahoussaye@libertyhill.txed.net.
