Grade Eight DC Trip - Registration Now Open!
Thanks to all who attended the DC Kickoff meeting.
If you were unable to attend, or looking for more information, a brochure is attached below.
While the trip is open to all grade eight students, you must be registered by the deadline, s please do not delay! Registration will close on October 31, so please get your deposit in as soon as possible.
Mrs. Sullivan's grade eight ELA students created versions of their Navajo names while reading Joseph Bruchac’s novel, Code Talker.

Health News
This week in health we finished up our peer pressure skits where the kids applied several types of refusal skills in real life situations. We are now entering our drug unit and discussing addiction and what it means to use prescription & over-the-counter drugs responsibly as well as misuse and abuse them. Officer Ramsey has been visiting Health classes to remind students of the skills they learned about in DARE as sixth graders.
Ski Club News
Mark your calendars now, because the HMS Ski Club will be traveling to Pats Peak on the following Saturdays: January 4, 2025, February 1, 2025, and March 8, 2025.
Student sign-ups for the ski club will begin in early November.

World Culture Club - Día de Muertos
Come join the World Language Club on October 29th after school to decorate your own sugar skull and make fun decorations for the Day of the Dead. Space is limited to 20 students so please sign up with Señora Fossi in room 211 or Señora Manning in room 218.
Viking News
Viking math students created their own "store" to review decimal operations. Each student created a store with 3 items and calculated a sub-total, discounted price, tax, and final sales price.
We love the creativity of this crew!
PTO News
School Council Representative Selected!
Congratulations to our new School Council representative, Joanna Novak!
Joanna is excited to be a part of the Hingham Middle School Community this year for the first time! She has a current sixth grader at HMS while her 3rd grader and kindergartener attend South Elementary School. She and her husband, Ryan, moved from Pittsburgh six years ago and have loved making Hingham home. Joanna works as an attorney, is a troop leader for Hingham Girl Scouts and volunteers at the Hingham Public Library.
Have You Paid Your PTO Dues?
Our dues cover staff appreciation events and gifts, cultural enrichment, grade level social events, mini grants for teachers, etc. The PTO holds no other fundraisers and depends solely on parent donations.
Recommended $45 per family. Venmo @HMSPTO-1103 or cash/check to HMS PTO dropped at main office.
This is separate from the HMS Activity, which is collected by the School Department.
Staff Appreciation
September is Stock the Supply Room Month! Help stock the supply room for our fabulous HMS teachers / students! The items requested are all for the betterment of the school, the classrooms and our children's learning experiences. Thank you so much for your generosity HMS!
Grade Level Fall Socials
Every fall the PTO plans and hosts amazing social events for each of the three grade levels at HMS. Details for each are fond below.
Sixth Grade Fall Festival
The 6th Grade Fall Festival will be held on Friday, 10/18, immediately following school, from 2-3:30PM on the fields. There will be games, music, inflatables, beverages, treats and more! This is the only major event for the 6th Grade Class...your student(s) will not want to miss!

Seventh Grade Halloween Social
All Hingham Middle School 7th grade students are invited to an evening of Halloween fun on Friday, October 25th from 7-8:30 pm at Hingham Middle School. Join your friends for an evening of music, games, snacks and more. This is an outdoor event so dress accordingly. Costumes encouraged!
Eighth Grade Bonfire
The 8th Grade Bonfire will be held at Plymouth River School on 10/18 from 7-8:30 pm. Join your friends for a fun- filled night of music and snacks by the fire. Register by Venmo $25 @HMSPTO-1103(name + grade in subject) or cash/check to HMS PTO dropped at main office(name + grade in memo).

Grand Classroom Expedition for Grade Eight Students
The kickoff for the 8th Grade Expedition Trip to the High Sierra mountains in CA will take place for students on Tuesday October 15, immediately after school in the Auditorium and for parents on Thursday October 17 at 7 pm in the Auditorium. This is a summer trip and no registration will be handed out in class.
If you hope to be involved in this trip, please attend one or both meetings.

Hingham Arts Walk: Sunday October 20th from 12 - 4
Join us for the 19th Annual Hingham Arts Walk to wander the streets of downtown Hingham and celebrate our community of the arts. Artists will have their work on display for sale on the sidewalks, and there will be live arts demonstrations and workshops throughout the day. The event will feature a community mural project and our first ever Gourd Gallery. Hingham Arts Alliance will host live performances, and there will be food and fun for the whole family. Event is FREE and all are welcome.
Gourd Gallery: Sunday October 20th from 12 - 4
Calling all artists! This year we are excited to host our first ever Gourd Gallery along Station Street during our 19th Annual Hingham Arts Walk. We invite you to paint, carve, decoupage, embellish, and otherwise transform your gourds into Gourd-geous works of art! Channel your inner artist and submit your artistic gourd or pumpkin to be part of the fun. Bring your completed gourd to the outside of William Raveis rear entrance on Station Street on October 20 from 10:30 to noon. Only completed works please, this is not a workshop. Be sure to title your pumpkin/gourd creation, and include medium for decorating and your name / age. Entry is FREE and ALL AGES are welcome to submit a piece.
Hingham Youth Cross Country - Registration Open!
Registration is now open for the 4th season of the Hingham Youth Cross Country Program.
Please note that the first session is MONDAY 9/9 at 4pm at HHS Track.
Practices will be held Mondays from 4-5pm at the Hingham High School track and are primarily led by current HHS Cross Country athletes.
The program is designed as an introduction to the sport. All 6th-8th graders are welcome regardless of running experience.
