Practicing Gratitude-Today and Always!
Greetings Roadrunners,
At Mirage Elementary, we believe in not only educating the minds of our students but also nurturing their hearts. This year, we’re focusing on the incredible impact that gratitude can have on our school community, both academically and socially.
The Science Behind Gratitude
Research shows that gratitude offers many benefits, particularly in education. When students practice gratitude, they often experience:
- Improved academic performance: Gratitude can boost focus and motivation. Grateful students are more likely to have a positive mindset toward learning, leading to better academic outcomes.
- Enhanced social-emotional skills: By practicing gratitude, students can improve their empathy, kindness, and social skills. This helps them form stronger relationships with their peers and teachers.
- Greater resilience: Grateful individuals are more resilient in the face of challenges, bouncing back from setbacks with a stronger sense of optimism.

Yearlong Game: Random Acts of Kindness
This year, all classrooms are participating in a special challenge: a yearlong game where each class secretly performs a random act of kindness for our school. Our goal is to spread kindness and foster a spirit of curiosity as we all try to discover who is behind each thoughtful act.
This focus on both performing and recognizing acts of kindness is designed to create a sense of gratitude throughout our school community. When students actively look for kindness in others, they become more mindful (mindfulness is one of our new updated core values) of the positive things happening around them, which in turn strengthens their own sense of thankfulness.
A Grateful School Community
We are so grateful for the continued support of our Mirage families. Your partnership helps us build a strong, caring, and supportive environment for our students. We look forward to connecting with you further during our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences, which will take place the week after Fall Break, from October 7-11.
Thank you for all you do to support your child’s success, both academically and socially. Together, we’re making Mirage a place where kindness and gratitude thrive.
With gratitude,
Bobbi Cerro

Shout out to DVHS for their Big HOCO Win!
We are thrilled to share the exciting news about our school's participation in the Deer Valley High School Homecoming (HOCO) parade! This has become a meaningful rite of passage for our 5th and 6th graders, and we are proud to say that for two years in a row, Mirage Elementary has been praised as the best-behaved elementary school in attendance.
In fact, one of our bus drivers specifically requested to transport our students because of how enjoyable and well-behaved they are. She went above and beyond, purchasing party hats and party whistles with her own money to add some extra fun to the experience for our kids—a huge shout-out to her and all the staff and parents who attended.
Thank you to our amazing students for making us proud and to our bus drivers and staff for their unwavering support. This tradition will surely continue for years to come!
Also, congratulations to Deer Valley High School for winning the big game!
