BOOTH HILL SCHOOL
September 20, 2024
Principal's Message
👋 Dear Booth Hill Families,
I was thoroughly impressed by the amazing job our Father's Club did in organizing, setting up, and running the BBQ. Equally impressive was the turnout of families who attended! This is a wonderful testament to how special the Booth Hill community is in supporting our children's growth. Nate Moyer, President of the Father's Club, stated, "The Booth Hill Fathers Club appreciates all those who made it out to last Friday's BBQ! We had a little over 800 people attend, a new record! Thank you all!"
Best,
Mr. Chase
Autumnal Equinox
While meteorologists like to call fall at the beginning of September, astronomical autumn starts later, on the autumnal equinox. This year, it falls on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8:44 a.m. EDT (12:44 UTC), according to the National Weather Service. At this specific time, Earth's axis is tilted side-on to the sun, meaning there's an almost equal amount of sunlight and darkness across the globe. This celestial geometry marks the changing of the seasons — from summer to autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and from winter to spring in the Southern Hemisphere. The word "equinox" is Latin for "equal night," one of two days per year when the lengths of daylight and darkness are the same across the globe.

Observe the Moon Night
On September 14th, third graders from all over the district gathered at Middlebrook School for a special "Observe the Moon Night." The students had the opportunity to view the moon through telescopes and, to their excitement, some even spotted a shooting star or meteorite streaking across the sky. In addition to these thrilling sights, they also glimpsed the International Space Station passing overhead and caught a clear view of Saturn. Students had the unique opportunity to visit the school's very own Observatory. It was an unforgettable night of discovery and fun for everyone involved!
5th Grade Activities
The PTA is forming the 5th Grade Activities Committee, which will consist of the Treasurer and the Committee Chairs. Many volunteers are needed and we hope all parents that want to help can be involved!
See a description of the roles here.
Interested in helping? Please complete this form no later than Wednesday, September 25th, so that we can designate roles and the 5th Grade Committee can get started planning the year! Once all volunteers and committees have been established as soon as possible after September 25th, we will hold a meeting to help parents coordinate. It will be the Committees' responsibility to communicate directly with the 5th grade parents.
Referendum
On September 25th at 7PM, the town of Trumbull will partner with the district to provide a presentation regarding the proposed new Hillcrest Middle School. The presentation will take place in the Hillcrest cafetorium, and community members will also have an opportunity to tour our building. As you begin to think about how you will vote on Election Day, please consider the following:
- Hillcrest Middle School currently does not have a sprinkler system, and is the only building in the school district without any fire suppression system;
- Hillcrest Middle School is currently approximately 80 students over capacity, with at least another 25 students projected to enroll in the upcoming school years;
- Special legislation was passed by the state legislature that increases the reimbursement rate from 24% to 44% for only this upcoming election. This decreases the overall cost of the project from $142,375,000 to $79,730,000.
- This project is the first step in a plan to address all buildings in the district.
Please spread the word to have as many people as possible attend this critical event.

Parent and school partnerships enable us to best support our students to ensure success at school.
"Chronically absent is defined as "a child who accumulated a total number of absences at any time during the school year that is equal to or greater than ten percent (10%) of the total number of days that such student has been enrolled at the school during the school year."
