Hawthorne Happenings
June 5 - End of the Year Edition!
Dear Hawthorne Families,
It is difficult to believe that tomorrow is the last day of the 2023-2024 school year!
Thank you for another wonderful school year. I can’t thank our community enough for your endless hours of volunteering, chaperoning, reading, organizing, teaching small groups, tutoring, creating, and so much more to support our students - both at home and at school. Special thanks to our Hawthorne PAC and parent volunteer committees, who endlessly advocate for and support our students’ rich art and educational experiences.
These experiences are made possible by the incredible skills, efforts, and dedication of our Hawthorne education team. Thank you to our incredible group of professionals!
We are saying “see you later” to several staff members who are dear to us - please see the next section of this newsletter for specific updates! We will dearly miss our departing Hawthorne family members, and appreciate all they’ve done to make this year a success.
To our incredible students: Thank you for your hard work throughout this school year. I am so grateful for your enthusiasm, joy, and unique talents. It is an honor and a privilege to be your principal. You make me SO proud to be a Hawthorne Hedgehog! Warmest wishes to our graduating fifth graders, whom I will miss greatly - please come back and visit.
Mrs. Patterson and I will be in the office all next week, and intermittently throughout the summer. Please reach out if you need anything.
Thursday's EOY Schedule - Please join us if you are able!
10:30 - 5th Grade Rocket Launch

Summer Resource Information from THRIVE 🌞
Hello Hawthorne Parents & Guardians,
As summer quickly approaches, I’ve received many questions about what resources are available for families while school is out.
Below are a few free or low cost activities and resources that you and your children can engage in this summer:
- Kids Summer Lunch Program offers free lunch for children 18 and under Monday through
Friday at various sites across Bozeman. More info can be found here: https://gallatinvalleyfoodbank.org/get-help/summer-meals/ - Gallatin Valley Food Bank offers food assistance for individuals and families all year long. You can call ahead to have a box made or shop in-person at their new location at 206 E. Griffin Dr. during these hours: Monday-Thursday 1:00pm-4:00pm, Tuesday Evening 5:00pm-7:00pm, Friday 9:00am-12:00pm. If you’d like to donate to the food bank, you can do so from Monday-Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm Friday 9:00am-12:00pm. More info can be found here: https://gallatinvalleyfoodbank.org/
- The Bozeman Public Library offers various free activities for children to participate in, including read with a dog, Lego Club, “STEAM Play”, cooking classes, and more. It’s noted that “[k]ids in grades 3 to 5 lose about 20% of their school year gains in reading and 27% of their gains in math. (Source: Scholastic) Resources such as the Public Library can support continued learning through the summer. Check out these links for info: https://www.bozemanlibrary.org/events/elementary-schoolers-3588 - https://www.bozemanlibrary.org/events/kids/kids-summer-learning
- Random Acts of Silliness offers opportunities for “the young and young at heart” to build community through art. Check out their next art installation and ways for children to get involved if the summer fairy gardens here: https://www.randomactsofsilliness.com/upcoming-events
- Greater Gallatin United Way Summer Camp offers a fun environment for children to learn and play all summer long. Kids can be enrolled for one week or all summer. Scholarships are available. Here’s the link to register: https://www.greatergallatinunitedway.org/kidslink-summer-camps
