Gilberts Elementary
Week of November 11th
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Grizzly Families,
This week, the state of Illinois released each school’s report card. We are excited to share the news with you that Gilberts Elementary School was identified as a Commendable school and has no underperforming student groups. Our students, staff and families have made a collective commitment to learning. We are proud of what we have accomplished together. We look forward to making continued academic growth with our students. You can view the Gilberts Elementary School report card at this link.
We continue to ask parents to review our arrival and dismissal procedures. It is important that all cars stay in a single file line and NOT cut in front of one another. This is essential for the safety of all families. In addition, please pull all the way forward. Do not stop to drop off your student with a large gap in front of you. This causes delays and our traffic does not flow smoothly.
Classroom instruction begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.. Please make sure your students are dropped off between 7:45a.m. and 7:55a.m. to ensure your students are in class on time. Following these procedures makes the entire process run smoothly and keeps our students safe. Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this matter.
Next week, parents will be able to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences, which will be held in person on November 25th and 26th. Please look for the email that was sent on November 1st regarding how to access the PTC Wizard so you can sign up for your conferences.
As a general reminder Thanksgiving break is Wednesday, November 27th through Sunday, December 1st. This means that our offices will be closed during this time. We hope that you are able to take some time as a family and enjoy this season.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ruzinok
Principal

There Is Always Time To Wash Your Hands
Please remember to wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating. Do not cough or sneeze into your hands. Do not put your fingers into your eyes, nose or mouth. Good hand washing is the single most effective way to stop the spread of colds, the flu, and other contact related illnesses. Please remember to wash your hands!
Safe School Hotline (847) 551-TIPS
If you have information about a threat of violence, weapons, or drugs at any D300 school, and you want to remain anonymous, call the D300 Safe School Hotline at (847)551-8477. Anyone can leave an anonymous tip on the hotline, 24 hours a day, with information. Please remember that you should only call the tip line if you feel it’s impossible to talk to a staff member and there is no immediate threat of violence. The Safe School Hotline does not replace 9-1-1. Any immediate emergency or risk of harm should be reported to 9-1-1.
Read With Your Child
Reading is the foundation for success in school. Children who enjoy reading will continue to learn and grow throughout their lives. And, reading is one of the most inexpensive things you can do! Here are some simple reading strategies that teachers use that are easy for parents to use too. When reading a story, stop before the end and ask your child to predict what they think will happen next. After you finish reading a story, ask your child how the story relates to a personal experience they might have had. Or, ask your child how they might have changed the story.
Attendance
Schools are required to track the attendance of every child in every classroom every day. It is important that you always contact the school if your child is going to be late or absent.
Weather
Cool weather has arrived and your students are expected to wear appropriate clothing to go outside. If you have younger students, please spend time with them practicing how to zipper their coats, put on their gloves, and put their boots on independently.
