Bullying happens in every single school. It also happens in homes and workplaces... Today it can happen everywhere! There is some really interesting research about the roles in a bullying situation- from the bully to the victim to the bystanders. The research tells us clearly that the impact of bullying can be reversed.

The issue we (parents and school staff) have with bullying is knowing when it is happening. It is not unusual for us to hear about a bullying situation months after it has happened.

So, a few notes:

1. Read this article called "7 Surprising Things Parents Don't Know About Bullying".
2. Keep an open dialogue with your child about how they are doing with friends, peers, frenemies, and kids that are sometimes just plain mean.
3. Know the difference between RUDE, MEAN, and BULLYING. This article by author Signe Whitson gives a great explanation. The author also provides some tips and a quiz to determine if your child understands the difference.
4. Let us know when you become aware that bullying is happening. Encourage your child to self-advocate and self-report, but if that doesn't happen, please contact the grade level administrator for support.
   
   

Bullying stinks. It can take the spirit right out of a child. But together we can certainly conquer the impacts on our kids.

The items in the first video are located on tables outside the cafeteria & gym. It includes a lot of clothing, shoes, lunch boxes, etc. All of the items in THIS VIDEO must be claimed by Friday, February 22nd. All items remaining in the Lost & Found outside the cafeteria after this date will be donated.

The items in the second video can be claimed in the main office. There are several pairs of glasses, a couple of phones, some jewelry, etc. We have had the glasses for several months and are considering making a donation to the Lion's Club of them.

Random Acts Matter is hosting their 2nd Annual Random Acts of Kindness Week starting February 11th - February 17th. Join in by attending one of their events or spread some kindness of your own. Let's all do our part to make the world a kinder place!

On February 20th and 21st, all 8th-grade students will have their vision screened in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health's school code. If you have submitted a vision exam from your child's eye doctor in the last year, we will use those results rather than screen your child. If your child has had a recent eye exam but you have not yet turned it into the Health Office please send it in so that we can use those results and include the exam in your child's health file. Please make sure your child has his eyeglasses with him at school on these screening dates. Thank you for your assistance in this process.

We want to send out an enormous THANK YOU to all of the families, vendors, and volunteers who attended our WMS PTO SUMMER ACTIVITIES FAIR this past Monday. We welcome the support everyone showed. It is our hope that you were able to discover and register your kid(s) for some great summertime fun! It takes many people to make these events happen - each person's contribution is so appreciated!

The annual D303 Fiddle Fest is approaching! This fun event is set for Friday, March 1st at St Charles North High School. Participating students should arrive at 5 pm for rehearsal.

Please remember the cost of the pizza is $5. Your child should bring $5 cash to Fiddle Fest if they are eating the pizza.

The Fiddle Fest concert will be at 7 pm in St Charles North Main Gym. Come hear a great performance from hundreds of D303 string musicians!
