No School on Monday January 20th in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We will resume on Tuesday, January 21st with regular schedule.

Safety is priority for all students, staff, and families here at Doyle. Please always remember:

• Students should be exiting/entering the vehicle on the passenger side closest to the sidewalk. It is very unsafe for students to exit where cars are in motion.
• Parents & students who ride bikes on the street, please always follow the flow of traffic. Do not ride against traffic.
• If your student rides their bike on the sidewalk, they must unmount their bike and walk the bike as soon as they enter the traffic circle.
• Vehicles, please make sure you drive to the end of the traffic circle if there is open space. This helps decrease the amount of traffic build up at arrival.
• Vehicles should not be left unattended at any time in the traffic circle. If you need to exit your car, please park at the Doyle park parking lot.

The front office is working hard to prepare for the 2025-2026 school year. It is crucial for us to know how many students are planning to return in August to ensure we have sufficient staffing and materials.

If you have already completed the form, no action is needed from you.

We are requesting all families, including 5th grade families, to fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM by January 31st

The last week of January is the Great Kindness Challenge Week. We will pair special kindness lessons with spirit week!

Thursday: Kindness moves - WEAR SPORTS ATTIRE

New Smile Dentistry will be at Doyle on February 20th and 21st!

This is an optional service that is offered to students if parents consent. Forms were sent home this week and should be returned to the school as soon as possible.

If you do not want your student to participate, no need to return the form.

theCoderSchool La Jolla is hosting a FREE 3D PRINTING WORKSHOP where kids will explore the basics of 3D design and watch their creations come to life using cutting-edge technology.

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE:

Stage 1: Preparation Work Scheduled at

Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue Intersection

On Jan. 21, the City of San Diego's contractor will begin two weeks of preparation work in the southern portion of the Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue intersection as part of the Pure Water San Diego Morena Northern Pipelines and Tunnels Project. Following the preparation work, the contractor will remove traffic control from the intersection to install large-diameter pipelines on Genesee Avenue between Decoro Street and Nobel Drive, before returning to the intersection as early as March to install pipelines through the intersection.

What to Expect:

• Two weeks of preparation work will begin on Jan. 21, and is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. As with all construction, the schedule is subject to change.
• Two-way traffic on Nobel Drive and Genesee Avenue will be maintained. All right turns will be permitted, and left turns will be detoured via U-turns at Esplanade Court to the north, Lombard Place to the east, Decoro Street to the south and Cargill Avenue to the west.
• Traffic signals around the intersection will be placed on flashing red with flaggers directing traffic during working hours.
• Traffic signals around the intersection will return to current operations during non-working hours.
• 24/7 access for emergency vehicles, residences and businesses will be maintained.
• If bike lanes are temporarily impacted, cyclist traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
• For safety reasons, please follow all posted signage and detours.
• Please anticipate traffic delays and construction noise. Please avoid the intersection and use Interstate 5 or Interstate 805 to La Jolla Village Drive as alternate routes.

San Diego Unified School District has updated the Parent Portal! You now have the ability to update your preferences via the Universal Form in Parent Portal. We strongly recommend avoiding changing your preferences except when necessary.

The Universal Form is completed by all families at the start of the year. This is a form that consents to:

1. Understanding the Discrimination, Harassment, Intimidation, & Bullying Policies
2. Permissions regarding being photographed. Please note that if permissions are updated and does not include "have my student's photograph included in the yearbook", your student will not be in the yearbook.
3. Understanding the Uniform Discipline Plan and consequences associated if student violates the policy.
4. Acknowledge you have been informed of your rights explained in the Health Requirements
5. Understanding the Technology/Network Use Guidelines and will abide by the rules & conditions outlined in the Facts for Parents: Section K.

If a change is made and does not acknowledge:

• Photography/Video/Media release - your student may not be posted in any pictures in Dojo, the yearbook, or anywhere else from Doyle Elementary.
• Technology/Network Use Guidelines - your student may have their Chromebook privileges taken. Meaning, they will not be able to take their Chromebook home for use.

Attendance is important! We strongly encourage all vacations and appointments to be scheduled around school days/times. However, we understand...life happens!

If your student is going to be absent, please inform the front office using one of the below methods:

• Doyle Elementary Attendance Reporting form : this can be found on our school website - just scroll down on the homepage and click "Report an Absence"

We encourage all travel to be done during breaks and outside of normal school days, but we know that doesn't always work out! If you plan on your student being absent for less than 15 school days, talk to your students teacher about an Independent Study Contract at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled trip.

This is an official contract that requires parent, student, and teacher signatures, and provides the opportunity for your student to complete work and earn attendance credit upon return.

Please keep in mind that this is optional for teachers. When teachers agree to an Independent Study Contract, they take extra time out of their planning and personal days to create a packet of work for your student to complete while out of school. If your student does not complete the required work, a certain number of days can and will be marked "unexcused".

We are not able to accommodate Independent Study Contracts beyond 15 days.
