Meeting the needs of every learner, every day
A Note From Your Principals
Welcome to December! Our students and staff will have a busy couple more weeks as we begin our winter round of universal screening, prepare reading plans for targeted students to promote literacy gains (families will receive notification if this is the case), continue focusing on our monthly theme of PEACE and our commitment of “I promise to promote Peace," and of course some fun woven in to keep engagement and excitement alive during these shorter days. Thanks, as always, for your support and partnership.
Greg Nelson, CEPS Principal
Brooke Hauser, CEPS/WIS Associate Principal

Help Needed for Morning Bus Riders
Nelson's is reporting that they consistently have students leave items on the bus as they get off at school in the morning. This creates a hassle for them to run items back to schools, and means our students are going without important items they need during the day. Please remind your child that they need to stop, think, and look for their items (backpacks, water bottles, winter gear bags, etc.) before they leave their seat. Thank you!
Reminder to Pay Outstanding Activity/Field Trip Fees!
If your student(s) had a field trip or activity this Fall, we would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to log into your Parent Portal and pay any fee(s). Directions for paying fees can be found below. If you are unsure if you have any outstanding fees, you can use the same directions below to check. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Lyndsey Niebuhr at niebuhl@mcfsd.org or (608) 838-4652. Thank you!

Dismissal Crossing Guard Paused
From School Resource Officer Zietsma: Our crossing guard at the Johnson and Sure intersection has not had to help any children cross the street at dismissal for over six weeks. We will pause that position for the remainder of the winter, but still have her there in the morning. We will reassess the need for that position when the weather gets warmer
Consistency is Key for Dismissal Safety
While we understand that each family needs to put in place dismissal plans that work best for their own needs, we need to reinforce the fact that the more consistent you can keep your child's after-school dismissal plans, the more fast and safe we can get everyone where they need to be. Please consider the following:
- If your child can have the same dismissal plan each day, that is ideal (i.e., bus, daycare, car, walk, etc.); when sporadic changes happen, sometimes the child forgets/is confused, a substitute teacher might not see an email you attempted to send their teacher, sometimes parents are not on the same page, etc.
- If your child's dismissal plans entail different methods on different days, please try and keep those days as consistent as possible (e.g., bus M/W/F, car T/Th)
- Your child's teacher is not monitoring their email during the day for you to communicate dismissal changes; you must email cepsattendance@mcfsd.org BEFORE 2:00 PM
- We cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate changes you communicate to us after 2:00 PM
- We will not rely on your child communicating dismissal changes to us; we will only allow dismissal changes to come from parent/guardian
- If you need someone else pick up your child after school, please get them a car sign (available in our main office) ahead of time; they cannot use the Johnson St. loop to pick up your child
- Dismissal supervision ends at 3:00; car riders must be picked up by then

Bridging Brighter Smiles Dental Clinic
Bridging Brighter Smiles Dental Clinic will be back at CEPS on Tuesday, December 10th and Wednesday, December 11th for winter visits! It's not too late to enroll! See flier information for more details and how to enroll; as well as the MSD Health Service website for additional Dental Resources.
Food Allergies
Does your child have a food allergy? Reminder, if they take hot lunch please visit NutriSlice for menu/ingredient information. Menus are subject to change based on product availability but families will be notified in advance. Please reach out to School Nutrition with any questions. If your child has a Life Threatening Food Allergy and EpiPen Prescription please send their Epipen to school. This can be kept in the health office or if your student is in grades 6-12, they can self carry it. All prescription medications, including emergency medicine, must have an MD order and Parent Signature, even if self-carrying. Consent forms are required every year and are available here, in the health office and on the District website. An Emergency Health Plan is then created and shared with all staff, including the Kitchen staff. Please reach out to Health Services with questions.
Medical Attendance
Is your student missing school due to illness, injury or health-related appointments? Providing a medical note or appointment card will prevent these types of absences as counting towards your students' allotted 10 days of excused absences for the school year. Please reach out to School Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at PeplinS@mcfsd.org or cepsattendance@mcfsd.org if you have additional questions about this process. You can also find more information about absences and attendance in the CEPS parent handbook located on the school website.
