Key Items
- Preschool teacher Jen Davis and Director of Curriculum and Instruction Corine Doll provided a status update for the Military Wall of Honor project at Wayne High School. The update included meeting the fundraising goal to begin work on this project in the near future. Many thanks to the City of Huber Heights and the Veteran’s Commission for their donations, along with many other organizations that have supported this project.
- Mrs. Doll provided an update on the completed summer school programs, including Art Camp, STEM Camp, Reading Camp, and Initial/Credit Recovery classes at Wayne.
- Donations totaling over $80,000 were approved by the Board of Education from a variety of individuals and organizations. The Board shared their deep appreciation for the generosity of the community to continue supporting HHCS.
- An extensive review and revision of our district facility use policy was completed and the Board approved the recommended revisions. There was no change to the facility use fees.
- The Board approved a facility use agreement with the Wayne Music Club for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Members of the WHS FFA were approved to travel to the national convention in Indianapolis on October 23-25.
- Our district volunteer form has been revised and approved beginning with this school year. Volunteers will now be approved on a school-year basis rather than a rolling 365-day model.
- Congratulations to the Wayne High School summer graduates, who will celebrate graduation on Thursday, September 26, at 6 p.m. at the Wayne High School Performing Arts Center.
Superintendent Update
Mr. Enix also spoke to district communications, following a question from Board Member Shannon Weldon regarding the response to a challenging district event. The district and building priorities are always to focus on student and staff safety, and communication at the appropriate times with accurate, factual, and timely information appropriate to the situation. Immediate communication is not a realistic expectation as it would interfere with handling situations and result in potentially conflicting messages as new information becomes available. HHCS and HHPD are actively working together to coordinate messaging as needed.
