Harvey Green Families,

Happy New Year! We have had a wonderful start to the new year, even though we have had so much rain and cold weather. Please be sure that your child comes to school with a warm hooded jacket each day, as it can get cold outside during recess and lunch. On rainy days it is important that all continue to follow all arrival and dismissal rules. I encourage giving yourself more time to arrive as the traffic is usually much heavier.

We recently held our Harvey Green Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Yashaswini and Viaan. We wish them both good luck at the FUSD Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 17th at Weibel Elementary.

The Science Fair is quickly approaching. Please see below for the contest rules. We hope to have many students participate.

Next week, Harvey Green will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge. During this time, we will encourage all students to complete as many acts of kindness as possible at school and hope they feel inspired to continue them at home! We will have activities throughout the week and a special spirit week.

Registration is beginning for TK and Kinder students for the 2023/24 school year. Be sure to register your children soon so they can have sibling priority.

Families of Grades TK - 5th students will receive information in the U. S. Mail in February 2023. This mail will include a letter that needs to be completed and returned the Harvey Green School office. You will also need to provide two proofs of residency.

Is your child almost TK/Kindergarten age? 2023-2024 enrollment begins on December 23rd. If your child is born between 09/02/18 to 4/02/19, they are eligible for TK! If they are born between 09/02/17 to 09/01/18 they are eligible for Kindergarten. Please check here for information on how to sign up your child for TK or Kindergarten.

The Fremont Unified School District Board of Education and our school faculty believe it is important for students to assume responsibility for their own health and well-being. They benefit from instruction that fosters the development of positive health behaviors and the prevention of negative unhealthy behaviors. FUSD’s Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality Education (CHPSE) curriculum focuses on information that is essential for students’ well-being. This course of study conforms strictly to the guidelines provided by the California State Education Code 51933 and the California Healthy Youth Act.

These lessons will be taught by classroom teachers in the spring. Exact dates are still being planned and will be communicated to families at least two weeks prior to lessons beginning.

State law allows you to remove your student from part or all of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality lessons. Students opting out of lessons will be provided an alternate curriculum under the supervision of a credentialed teacher. If you do not want your student to participate in all or part of the Comprehensive Health, Puberty, and Sexuality education program, you must provide, in writing (email or on paper), a note to your student’s teacher.

We are excited to announce that the Science Fair is back. More information and contest rules can be found below. All students who are participating in the Science Fair need to set up their project in the MUR on Friday, February 10th between 8-8:20am. Families are invited to attend Harvey Green's Science Fair on Tuesday, February 14th from 5-6pm. Please be sure to carefully read all instructions, as the projects will be judged following that criteria. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Liaquat at kliaquat@fusdk12.net or Ms. Johnson at tjohnson@fusdk12.net. If you need a board for the project, you can pick one up from Mrs. Liaquat in the Science Lab.

With all the rain, I hope everyone is staying safe and dry. For January, the counseling topics vary by grade but include coping skills, making good decisions, responsibility, and goal setting. We also have the Great Kindness Challenge Week coming up (Jan 23rd-27th). Let's have some fun with a Spirit Week! During the week, I will be hosting a few activities for the students at school but don't let the kindness stop there. Try out these kindness challenges at home with your children!

FUSD Elementary counselors are hosting upcoming parent workshops! The first one will be on Thursday, Jan. 19th with the topic of Emotional Intelligence. Check out this flyer for details.

ALL Green students will have access to free meals here at school. Students will be asked every morning if they are going to get a school lunch so we can order the correct amount

of food. Please communicate with your child if you would like them to get a school meal and if they are choosing the meat or vegetarian option.

TK/K students are welcome to come through the lunch line and grab a lunch but there is no lunch supervision for TK/K students they will need to eat with a parent/guardian off campus.

Breakfast will be served daily in the MUR for any interested students at 8:05am. Parents/guardians are not allowed in the MUR. Students will be supervised while they eat and will be either released to recess when finished or if they are TK/K they will be walked to class.

Per Board Policy any parent/guardian of a student enrolled in the District shall notify the District prior to or within five (5) days of any change in circumstance and/or a move which would affect their student’s residency (AR 5111.1).

Please complete and email the Change of Address Form with 2 proofs of new address residency to your current school.
