September- Attendance Awareness Month
- Students who attend school regularly tend to achieve at higher levels than those who don't.
- School attendance helps students develop friendships, social skills, team values, and cultural awareness.
- Regular attendance helps students develop a strong work ethic.
- Good attendance helps students prepare for higher education and future employment.
AHS Data: During the first 16 days of school this year, 43% of our students have missed one or more days of school and there have been 753 tardies recorded.
Information for All Students:
- ACS Bus Transportation: Parents and students, because of all the bus changes thus far this year, please be sure you are using the bus app to gain information on your specific bus.
- Class Officers: Students will be voting on class officers in Tiger Connect on Wednesday, September 11.
- Student Check-Out: Students may not be checked out by note or via a phone call. Parents and guardians must come to the office to handle this school business. If you know of a need for a check out in advance, you may do this up to five school days ahead of a needed check-out.
- September is Suicide Prevention Month – This is a time to raise awareness of this critical issue. AHS Counseling will use this month to share vital information with all students through various planned activities such as PSA videos, mental health self-care tips, awareness presentations, and the STOP Suicide Pledge. Our goals are to ensure that students, teachers, and the AHS community have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and know how to seek help. Don't hesitate to contact a counselor or administrator with questions or concerns.
- Inter Club Council: The Inter Club Council (ICC) meets quarterly with representatives from every student organization. The main purpose of ICC is to support individual club goals and activities while maximizing campus-wide efforts. A student or sponsor representative from every club should be present. Each meeting is mandatory for clubs to be considered “active”.
- The next ICC meeting will be held on September 10 at 7:45 a.m. in the Schola.

- Marine Corps Scholarships: On September 26th, 2024, a representative will be available during all lunch periods to discuss the Marine scholarship opportunities offered through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC). The Marine Option provides individuals with a strong commitment to service and the chance to earn a commission in the United States Marine Corps while pursuing their academic studies at a participating college or university. - Southern Union Technical Division-Dual Enrollment: On September 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., representatives from the Technical Division of Southern Union State Community College (Opelika Campus) will be available in the media center to discuss their diverse range of programs and dual enrollment opportunities. For more information or to register for this event, please contact your Career Coach, Mr. Bailey, at wcbailey@auburnschools.org.
- Biology & Forensic Science Club: Students can join Biology Club and Forensic Science Club by paying dues on MySchoolBucks. Meetings will start soon! See Ms. Alexander (1222) for details.

Information for Seniors:
- National English Honor Society: Applications for National English Honor Society for the Class of 2025 will be accepted from September 1-16. Applications will close at 4:00 PM on 9/16.
- Only AHS seniors are eligible to apply for membership.
- Students can find the online application and procedures for applying by joining the NEHS Schoology GROUP using the Access code: J8BV-CPQJ-4SXR5. Please note that this is a Schoology group, not a course.
- Students must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.75 English cumulative GPA to be considered for membership.
- Please contact Mrs. Barnes or Ms. Muschara with any questions.
- Students will be notified by September 25 via the NEHS Schoology group regarding the status of their application.
- National Honor Society Members: National Honor Society will host its first meeting before and after school on Wednesday, September 18 in the Cafeteria. Students who’ve been inducted should plan to attend one of those meetings. ***AHS NHS invites juniors and seniors who have maintained a weighted, unrounded GPA of 3.7500 in the spring semester. If you’ve transferred to AHS and have already been inducted at a former school should contact Ms. Hopf (mehopf@auburnschools.org).
- Deadline for Selecting Senior Picture Proof: October 14th.
- Yearbook Senior Ad Purchase: https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A00017800 The deadline for Senior Ads is December 6, 2024. Senior students should have brought home a postcard with Senior Ad information.

- PowerSchool Parent Portal Access: Any parent/guardian wanting a parent portal instruction letter for grade and attendance access, should stop by Auburn High School with proper identification and request the ACS Parent Portal Letter.

- Child Nutrition Program: It is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardians to pay for student meal purchases in advance or on a daily basis. (Code of Federal Regulations NSLP 7 CRF 210, Revised 01-01-9) Parents may access and deposit funds in each student’s meal account online at http://www.myschoolbucks.com/
Students in grades 10-12 will not be allowed to charge meals and will not have access to an alternative meal. Please remember that an updated application for free/reduced lunch status must be completed each year. If your son/daughter was on free/reduced lunch last year, and you anticipate a continued need, please complete a new application. Any student without an updated application will roll over to paid status on September 19. If you need assistance, please contact your child’s counselor.
- HOSA Pink Out the Duck Shirts: Get your “Pink Out the Duck” T-shirts from a HOSA club member or on My School Bucks. The last day to purchase a shirt will be October 4th at noon. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The “Pink Out the Duck” game will be on October 25. Click here to order!
- Auburn First: If you would like more information on Auburn University's dual enrollment/credit program, please attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 5:45 p.m. The session will be located at 208 FOY Hall, at Auburn University. For more information, please contact aufirst@auburn.edu.
- AHS Volunteer Expo: AHS will host it’s first Volunteer Expo on September 17. Come learn about Innerview and meet representatives from local nonprofits who would love your help. This event is open to all AHS students seeking opportunities to complete service hours for various organizations.
- Band Boosters Pink Out the Duck Shirts: The AHS Band boosters is selling Pink out the Duck shirts through their online store. The shirts are $15. Click here for the link to purchase.
- Poetry Out Loud: If you are curious about competing in any of AHS’s three poetry recitation competitions, please come to an interest meeting on September 11 at 3:45 in Room 1326. See Ms. Hopf if you have questions or are interested, but unable to attend.
- PTO will be hosting a restaurant night at Melt Auburn on Wednesday, September 18, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Melt is located at 1800 Samford Trace Ct. Suite 240. Be sure to mention Auburn High School so we benefit!
