From The MYP Coordinators
One of the most important Approaches to Learning skills that we teach students in Grades 6-10 is how to collaborate. As we know, the “real world” requires us to know how to work together productively, and it is often through collaboration that we learn valuable new things from one another! Our visual arts teachers from MUHS and MUMS put this very thing into practice right before break, when they met at MUMS to learn stained glass techniques from Ms. Maggio, who has worked with our middle schoolers for years in this medium. In return, Ms. Maggio will visit MUHS to learn new techniques from Joe Schine and Kylie Wolgamott early this spring. Together, they’re making their practice stronger, enriching our secondary arts expertise, and having lots of creative fun in the process!

Learn About the ACSD FY26 Budget!
Our FY26 Budget development process is underway and we invite the ACSD community to learn more and share feedback as we build toward a final budget:
On January 6 at 6:30pm, the ACSD Board meeting will offer an overview of the full ACSD FY26 Budget spending plan (MUHS Library or virtual).
On January 9th at 6:30, Superintendent Baker will host a virtual Public Input Session where the ACSD community can ask questions and share feedback. (Use this meeting link (password: ACSD)
Find these meeting links and more information, resources, and opportunities for community engagement on our FY26 Budget webpage.
Dress for the weather!
This is a reminder that a part of our lunch break in the middle of the day includes some outdoor time. It is our expectation that unless a student is spending their recess in the Library that they go outside for at least the first five minutes of the lunch/recess block. Some students who wish to spend more time outside can do so.
Please encourage your child to dress for the weather which likely includes a winter coat and potentially a hat and mittens. With the exception of extreme weather conditions which would include temperatures below 0 degrees or a soaking rain, we will be outside during recess!
Please let your child's counselor know if your child doesn't have the proper outdoor attire and they can work with you to obtain what they need.
Binder needed for Health Class!
Get ready for an awesome year of health class! To keep things organized (and avoid the "where's my handout" panic), we're asking all students to bring a 1.5 inch binder to class. Think of it as their health sidekick of the year - keeping all handouts, assignments and important info safe and sound. If your student needs help obtaining a binder, please connect, or have them connect with their counselor and we can get them one. Thanks for helping us start the new year off right! Questions? Please let us know - we're here to help!

Message from the Nurse
It's that time of year again! Several positive flu cases have been reported here at MUMS, with an increase over the last week. With that in mind, we wanted to share some guidance and reminders to help minimize the spread of illnesses. Please remind your students not to share water bottles, food or anything else that can further contribute to the spread of illness. Please also encourage your students to eat well, stay hydrated and get plenty of rest. Good hand washing is the #1 way to prevent the spread of contagious illness!
We expect students to stay home with any potentially contagious illnesses or symptoms including the following:
Vomiting/diarrhea-must be 24 hours symptom free before returning to school
Fever 100.4 or greater -stay home until fever free without use of medication for 24 hours
Any infection requiring antibiotic-keep your student home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours
Persistent cough that disrupts normal activity
Unexplained rash
Influenza and COVID-stay home until fever free without medication for 24 hours
Any other symptoms or illness that impedes a student’s ability to learn or staff’s ability to work.
Students may return once feeling well enough to be at school and fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
If your student tests positive for Influenza or COVID, it is very helpful if you are able to call or email the school nurses to report this so we can track trends and determine if we are having outbreaks.
Thank you!

Student Attendance (absences/dismissals) and Bus Notes
- To report your child absent from school or notify us of an early dismissal please leave us a message on our attendance line by calling 382-1297 before 8:30 AM.
- If you send a student to school with an early dismissal note or bus note they should bring them the office before TA.
- All bus notes need to be stamped/signed by one of our Administrative Assistant's in the front office. Students will not be allowed to ride a bus to another location without a note from home that is stamped/signed by the office.
