Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 9th May 2025
Commemorating VE Day
Remembering in Style!
Thank you to Mrs Pitt for her organisation of the day, and all the staff for making sure it went so well.
Workhouse Museum
Year 4 had a wonderful trip to the Ripon Workhouse Museum on Wednesday. Throughout the morning, the children were split into girls and boys to experience what a day in the life of a Victorian pauper girl or boy would be like. For the boys this involved sorting and planting crop seeds and scaring the birds whilst the girls did rug weaving. All children also experienced what it would be like in a Victorian classroom. In the afternoon, the children had a go at baking bread, Victorian games and laundry. The children particularly enjoyed using the dolly and dolly put and the mangle when doing the laundry.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to this week's stars:
Nursery -Luis for great contributions and ideas in a group activity.
Reception - Matilda for participating well in group discussions, demonstrating great listening skills and always working to the best of her ability.
Year 1 - Arjun for showing lots of confidence when sharing his ideas with the class. He has used full sentences when speaking, well done.
Year 2 - Brody for being so resilient over the past week. We are so proud of how Brody has overcome any challenges with a huge grin on his face. He's also been demonstrating a fantastic attitude to learning.
Year 3 - Lily for such a huge effort in maths and English this week. She has really impressed us.
Year 4 - Grace D for wonderful effort on our current science topic, classification. She always gives her best effort and is an excellent role model.
Year 5 - Anastasiya for always trying her hardest and just getting on with any task quietly and neatly!
Year 6 - Charlotte S for always being a fantastic role model, a great friend and a pleasure to teach.
Congratulations on the New Arrival!
We were delighted to hear from Mrs Babington on Wednesday the wonderful news that her beautiful baby daughter arrived safely in the early hours of the morning! Huge congratulations to the whole family; we cannot wait to meet little Halle!
Parent Governor Election
Thank you to all parents who returned their ballot papers for the parent governor election. Votes were counted this morning according to the published procedure in the presence of witnesses and the two candidates. Huge thanks to both candidates for putting themselves forward to serve the school. On this occasion, Mrs Shamila Griffiths has been elected to serve a four year term as a parent governor on our governing body.
Staff News
Mrs Walsh would like to inform everyone that she is recovering well from an operation earlier this week. She will be away from school resting next week but plans to be back in the final week of the half term. Meanwhile, our deputy Mrs Linkins is taking the lead and is thankful for all the support from the staff team. We are sure you all join us in wishing Mrs Walsh a speedy recovery.
Roof Work - Repairs Scheduled to Start
The repairs to the roof damaged by the falling tree last year are scheduled to start on Monday 19th May. We are fortunate that all work can be completed from the car park side of the building so there should be very little impact on the children and our daily school routines. However, extra care will be needed for anyone entering school by the main entrance or to drop off or pick up from Oscar's. The roofers' materials, tools and work cabins will be situated behind fencing but this will extend over the path near the bin store. The ramp will not be accessible unless essential and this will have to be facilitated by the roofing company. We apologise for any inconvenience. Please contact the school office if you have any concerns over not being able to use the ramp. We will keep you updated on progress to the repairs but are hopeful that they will be complete by the first week in July.
Can we also take this opportunity to remind parents not to park in the school car park? With the roofers taking up parking places, this will make the space even tighter. Thank you.
Duck Race!
Thanks to the Friends. Hot on the heels of a successful disco, they have now restarted 'ice cream Friday' and have started to sell numbers for the duck race 21st May. The summer fair will take place on Saturday 21st June and more information will come out later in the term.
Sports Day Thursday 22nd May
Arrangements will be the same as last year with the EYFS sports day beginning at 9am straight after drop off. KS1 and KS2 will begin their sports day at 1.30pm. Parents are welcome to come and support.
For Nursery children who do not normally attend on a Thursday, we ask that parents drop their children at the classroom. Parents may then stay for the duration of the event and collect their children straight afterwards from the classroom. We are unable to keep the children for the full morning session of nursery if they do not usually attend due to maintaining staffing ratios.
