CIS Weekly Updates
2024-2025: #1 August 26 - 30, 2024
#3: September 9-13, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, we had our first town hall meeting! The students did a great job, and it was a lot of fun. Our monthly town hall meetings are a time for celebrating students, teaching our SEL curriculum, drawing bear paw winners, and having some friendly 5th/6th-grade competitions. Our next town hall meeting is on Friday, October 4.
As students get older, they are inclined to choose different types of reading material. While books at CIS are carefully selected, there are books out there that look safe on the cover but contain content that is not appropriate for our students. One example is Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. I was shocked when I opened the book and read a few pages. Please be aware of the books your student is reading.
Cleveland is bidding to hold the Special Olympics 2030. If this is hosted so close to home in 2030, it would be very exciting for our families who depend on this organization to provide activities that are specifically designed to let people with all types of disabilities compete. They need about 10,000 volunteers to make this possible. If interested, then please click the link to learn more.
Are you looking to surprise your son or daughter's teacher? I have a list of our staff favorites that may help you. I surveyed our teachers, and they shared their favorite snacks and drinks. This list is not intended to prompt you to do something special for staff. It is a tool we've created to help you show your appreciation in a way that's meaningful to the recipient. *This list was voluntary, so it may not include all teachers.
Have a FANTASTIC Week!
Brandon Cobb, Principal
READ-A-THON FUNDRAISER - SEPTEMBER 13-23
Our first PTO fundraiser of the school year kicks off this Friday and runs through Monday, Sept 23! Information went home last week on how parents can register their students for the read-a-thon. Students who register by Monday, September 16, will receive a prize on Monday (non food item). Once students are registered, it's easy for families to send the link out to family and friends asking for donations as students read and track their minutes.
Our Building Goal is $10,000 and if the goal is reached, Mr. Cobb will be duct taped to the wall! These funds are used throughout the year to provide special incentives and opportunities for students such as the Turkey Trot, Winter Carnival, Grizzly Games, Tie-Dye t-shirts and so much more.
In an effort to involve all students, we will have Read-A-Thon Theme Days starting Friday as follows:
CHESS CLUB 2024-2025

CHOIR WELCOME FROM MRS. MUHL
Welcome to CHOIR:
I hope after our first rehearsal this week your child is interested in joining choir this year! We had some great rehearsals! Please ask your child about the choir handbook that was passed out. I have plenty at school, but here is the link to the choir handbook, if you wish to print it out as well. I would like the permission slip returned by the end of this week (9/6/25) if possible. We highly encourage students to try both band and choir and we divide our fine arts time up to accommodate both.
BOTH 5th and 6th-grade students need to return the handbook permission slip, AND please sign up for Remind for the correct choir and have your children join the choir Google Classroom for their grade. I look forward to an outstanding year of singing!!! If you have any questions, please email Amy Muhl at amuhl@wadsworthschools.org

COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND NAMING CHALLENGE
FROM WADSWORTH CITY: We're excited to invite you to help us name the new community playground that is replacing the former Kaleidoscope Playground. While we've been using "Destination Playground" as a temporary name during the design and construction phases, we want to hear ideas from Wadsworth residents and students before choosing a final name.
The playground features the match theme and much of the equipment is in Wadsworth red. A link to a short fly-through video prepared by the City's playground equipment installer can be found HERE. It does a great job of depicting what the playground will look like once complete.
Please share your suggestions by completing the short survey HERE by Friday, September 13. Thank you for your participation!
Character Strong
We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. Their work will focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.
This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The lessons focus on developing skills and mindsets around building positive habits, understanding our emotions, and increasing empathy for people and communities who have lived different lives than us. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.
One of the key parts of nearly every lesson is the “CharacterDare” for students. These are invitations near the end of most lessons to put the content that they are learning into action in the real world. If you ever want to play an active role in the CharacterStrong curricula, simply ask your student about the most recent CharacterDare. Maybe they’ll invite you to try one yourself! To learn more about CharacterStrong, check out characterstrong.com to discover other resources for students and families.
