This is just a friendly reminder that students need to come to school properly dressed for the weather. As the weather gets colder and wet, students need to have the following items: winter hat, mittens/gloves, scarf, winter boots, snow pants and a proper winter jacket.

Despite the cold weather, we will be going outside, unless there has been a weather advisory stating that we cannot go outside or the playground is icy.

Please remember to LABEL EVERYTHING! In order to help us, you can practice having your child dress him/herself in winter gear.

Hello Hanawalt Families,

Beginning next week we will be providing some schoolwide activities focused on attendance.

As I am sure you are aware by now, there is a new attendance law. At Hanawalt we are hoping to promote daily ALL day attendance EVERY day. Minutes missed at any time adds up to days missed—so being at school ALL day EVERY day is the key!

One of our activities is an all-school effort to be at 90% attendance. We will track attendance weekly and if we hit that 90% mark any week of the month—all students will earn a reward at the end of that month in their classroom. November's reward is a popcorn party. For reference -Hanawalt is at 85.58% attendance at this time.

Another activity that we will start next week will be attendance Bingo. This activity is to promote being on time each day. On random days throughout the month, it will be announced during morning announcements, that it is an attendance Bingo day. The students will have cards to mark if they are here. If your student arrives AFTER that announcement they will not be able to mark their card. Once a student gets a bingo they will earn a prize at the end of the month.

These are fun ways to promote being on time as well as full day attendance. The chances to win are available to all students! Look forward to seeing how high our attendance can soar!
