National Children's & Teen Grief Awareness Month
November is National Children's & Teen Grief Awareness Month!
This awareness month..
- is designed to help all of us become more aware of the needs of grieving children & teens;- is an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact that the death of a family member has in the life of a child or teen;
- is an opportunity to demonstrate and share support and encouragement to others.
On Thursday, Nov 9th program staff and interns from The Children's Room (TCR) will be partnering with counseling staff from our school to host activities and an awareness table during lunch. Students who would like to participate will have the opportunity to anonymously represent the pets and people in their lives who have died and/or write a message of support for peers. We encourage you to wear BLUE on Thursday to show support for those that are living with grief.
We hope that this event may also be an opening for family discussion. Consider asking your child what they drew/wrote on their blue heart honoring or supporting someone. Share with them about the pets and people your family remembers and the memories you hold. In particular, acknowledge holiday memories and also ways that your family continues to support each other over time.
