Bridge Bulletin
March 22, 2024
Principal Chat
Recently we sent an email to all students who are registered for next school year. As we complete enrollment it is absolutely critical we know ASAP if you have changed your mind about having your kids return to Bridge. This is especially important for grades K-4. We have many in the lottery who have had one of their students selected and are waiting for a spot to open up in another grade for the sibling. PLEASE let us know as soon as possible if your student or students are not returning for 2024-2025 so we can open the spot to waiting families. If your student mentions to us they may be going to a new school, our office staff will reach out to you to confirm.
The shirt order was placed and we except them to be delivered around the end of March. We will sort these and have them ready for students after Spring Break.
Sadly, our outdoor dining carport cannot be built. After further review from the state fire marshal and the state charter school engineers, they have determined the carport would encroach upon an easement needed for the fire truck and hose extension and possibly the space needed for the future widening of 3500 W. Instead, we will be many buying huge umbrellas on stands to keep our kids shaded when they are eating lunch outside.
OPEN POSITIONS THIS SCHOOL YEAR - we are looking for a full time para-educator for 2nd grade. Interested parties should send a resume to Lani@BridgeCharter.org

Customized Supports Through Small Group Instruction
One area of Personalized Competency Based Learning (PCBL) is "customized supports". This type of instruction provides learners with appropriate and timely supports to achieve growth or competency and engage in personalized learning. These supports are based on data about the learner's demonstrated strengths and needs.
One way in which Bridge provides customized supports is through small group instruction. Small group instruction allows teachers to scaffold instruction to meet the learner's needs and offers many opportunities for deliberate practice of the skill being learned and for class discussions. Researchers have concluded scaffolding, deliberate practice, and class discussion all have an average effect size of 0.81 on student learning. This effect size is more than TWICE the 0.40 "hinge point of effectiveness" that researchers recommend.
Mrs. Rounds' Happy Clicker Reached 10,000 Clicks!
Mrs. Rounds has a yellow "happy clicker" she wears on a lanyard everyday. Anytime something makes her happy - a hug from a student, seeing excellent learning or instruction, observing students being kind to each other, etc. - she clicks the clicker. She used to reset the clicker each day with daily clicks ranging from 50 - 100. In October Mrs. Rounds decided to keep the clicker going, providing FREE dress down coupons to the lucky student who hugged her at a milestone click such as 2,500, 5,000, etc. The purpose of the happy clicker is to remind Mrs. Rounds that although the job of being a principal is hard, the happy always outweighs the hard!
There is vinyl on the wall in her shared office that says, "Don't Let the Hard Days Win!" and the clicker is just one more reminder that we can't let the yucky and the bad overshadow all of the great things that happen each day.
On Tuesday the happy clicker reached 10,000 clicks and the entire school earned a FREE Dress Down Day on Monday, March 25!

FIELD DAY DONATIONS NEEDED
We are planning for our Field Day bash which is the last day of school - Thursday, May 30 (this is also a short day). For Field Day kids will participate in: bounce houses, face painting, yard games, water activity, magician, school movie, yearbook signing, and an outdoor BBQ.
We are requesting donations of the following items. Bring any items into the office.
- Cans of soda (any kind especially the fun flavors in Shasta or the other off brand names)
- Prizes kids can win at the Games. IDEAS - new toys from kid's meals, items bought in bulk at Zurchers or Oriental Trading, bulk items from the Dollar store.
Maturation
At Bridge, instead of having a "maturation night" for 5th grade students which other schools typically do, we opt to provide parents the information so they can determine how much they want to share with their child and at which age they want to share it. For many girls, by the time they are in 5th grade they have already started menstruation and it is a little too late for a lesson on maturation. We believe parents can best determine what students should know about maturation and puberty, and when a child should know it.
Our maturation committee met and reviewed information from different sources. They determined, and our Board approved, to use the maturation information provided by Provo School District. The maturation information includes videos and packets for girls and boys that you can download and share with your child.
This is the link to the MATURATION information.
KIDS READ NOW Grant
Once again we were approved for the Kids Read Now grant which sends home FREE books to all of our K-3 students during the summer. Students will get THREE books between June and August which are mailed to the address in Aspire. Teachers will select the books according to the student's reading level.
Parents may OPT OUT of this program by completing this form:

4th Grade Para Educators
Josh Hopkins
Hi, I’m Josh Hopkin, para educator with the 4th grade at Bridge Elementary. I currently study psychological sciences at Weber State University where I hope to graduate in 2024. Following my graduation, I plan to further my education by pursuing a degree in instructional design and technology.
I enjoy staying creative, being active, and continually learning. My wife, Collette, and I have been married for almost two years and live in Mountain Green, Utah.
I love education and am committed to doing my best to help your student(s) have an enjoyable, valuable, and meaningful experience!
Aric Collier
Patty Richardson
Danie Treadwell
Howdy! My name is Danie Treadwell....but some of your kids might know me as Miss Treadmill (oops, lol). In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my kids, my family, and friends. On weekends I'm usually out hiking, at a concert, or nerding out playing Dungeons and Dragons.
I absolutely love being a Bullfrog with Fourth Grade. Watching these kiddos learn and laugh is the best part of my job. I enjoy sharing fun, weird, or interesting facts, being silly, or giving out hugs to all of them, they really do make my day!
Visible Learning - Enthusiasm
I will...
- Be an "energy giver".
- Smile.
- Encourage others.
- Treat every job as important.
- Not be discouraged by failure.
By using these visible learning traits each day students will become lifelong learners who are set up for success. Please use this same verbiage at home and recognize when your student is using this trait.

Volunteers
- Cutting Watch Me Learn tickets (stop by the office).
- Pulling weeds in the rock areas and park strips (we have all the area in front of the school and up 4800 S along the school fence).
- Sorting construction paper into like colors (stop by the office).
- Using rakes and shovels to redistribute the gravel from the bottom of the retention area in front of the school to the top area to cover the black landscape screen.
- Parking lot duty before and after school (just check in at the office, put on a yellow vest and talk to Travis in the crosswalk for instructions).
Once your family has volunteered 30 hours they can stop by the front office and ask for a VOLUNTEER FROG. There is no formal tracking program - just track the hours yourself. Then, write your family's name on the frog and tape the frog on our volunteer pond in the front foyer.
If you want to volunteer but do not have the time, you can donate $90 to cover the 30 hours. If you choose to donate, complete the volunteer form. You can donate in the office or by using our DONATE icon on the home page of our website.
Volunteering or donating is OPTIONAL and is not required to be a student or a parent of a student at Bridge Elementary.

For this reason we encourage ALL families to apply for Free/Reduced lunch through Aspire to ensure every single student receives the services needed, including access to free or reduced meals if appropriate.
Title I provides avenues for parent input and participation. We do this through our surveys and the link to the form on our website which allows parents to submit questions and suggestions.
You can find more information about Title I as well as a form to ask questions or provide suggestions regarding Title I, on our website at:
