The Siegrist Star
Week of May 5 , 2025
We have been Busy at Siegrist this week! Take a look...
Lauren Parrish, Speech Therapist at Siegrist Elementary, Awarded 2024 MSHFCA Assistant Coach of the Year - Fall Class 4
We are excited to share that Lauren Parrish, Speech Therapist at Siegrist Elementary, has been honored as the 2024 Missouri State High School Fastpitch Coaches Association (MSHFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year – Fall Class 4!
Coach Parrish was nominated by Head Girls’ Softball Coach and high school teacher, Kallie Peoples. After Coach Peoples welcomed a new baby this season, Coach Parrish graciously stepped in to support the softball team, providing outstanding leadership and dedication.
It was a wonderful surprise during our student-led monthly awards ceremony, Platte County Athletic Director Gabe Middleton and Coach Peoples presented the award to Coach Parrish.
Congratulations, Coach Parrish, on this well-deserved recognition!
Siegrist Career and Community Student Leader Explorers
For our Lead Day (April 25), our Siegrist Career and Community Student Leader Explorers
participated, alongside the NCC Law Enforcement/CSI students, navigating real-world learning about the American Criminal Justice System. The various hands-on learning stations included: blood swabbing, latent fingerprinting, crime scene processing, and an equipment showcase. With each station, NCC students were right there to provide step-by-step instructions, helping students actively investigate a mock crime scene, placing yellow numbered cards marking what they thought as evidence, collect evidence, label it, and swabbing for fingerprints. Siegrist students collected evidence and dusted fingerprints (from their own samples) and got to take them home! A huge thank you to all those that made this such an exciting experience!
5/30 Staff Wellness Challenge Update
Our Staff Wellness Challenges run from September through April each year. Each month, every PCR-3 employee can choose up to four individual goals in the areas of nutrition, fitness, self-care, and family, along with one District-wide goal we all work on together.
Congratulations to everyone who qualified for a Trolley Run t-shirt by completing their 5/30 Wellness Challenges for three consecutive months!
The Trolley Run took place last Saturday, April 27, and participants had the option to run or walk 4 miles in person, or complete the 4-mile virtual event as part of our District wellness program.
Hats off to the first graders for an excellent performance on Wednesday at the Wilson Center!
The show featured Ima Miller (Reia), who was searching for the perfect hat just for her. Harmless Hank (Jameson) was also trying to find a hat that suited him and chose one from his favorite sport.
Many students worked hard to learn their speaking parts, and Miller, Jeffery, Harper, and DJ impressed the audience with their solos.
The performance ended with a powerful message: It doesn’t matter what kind of hat a kid wears—it’s what’s underneath the lid that counts. Even if your hat is a great work of art, what truly matters is what’s in your head and your heart!
Following the program, the Siegrist choir put on a heartwarming performance that was just as moving and memorable.
A big THANK YOU to our wonderful music teacher, Mrs. Burnett, and all the staff members who helped make these programs such a special experience for our students, parents, and guests!
Transportation – Bus Compasses - Keep for Next Year!
Following the successful rollout of the Bus Compass system for our elementary bus riders this year, the Transportation Department will continue using this system in the coming years.
They have asked us to notify parents to keep their child's Bus Compass for use next year. This will help speed up the process, as each student will continue using the Bus Compass already assigned to them.
If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Department at transportation@pcr3schools.org.
Thank you for your cooperation!

School Counselor Notes
School Counseling Lessons -April and May School Counseling Lessons are on career awareness and exploration. The elementary version of Missouri Connections is called Career Trek. This year counselors will be supplementing lessons with Career Trek to help students become aware of jobs, tools, and their likes and dislikes when it comes to exploring occupations. We invite parents to discuss the jobs you do with your students, what skills and tools are utilized in your job and how important education and continued learning is to your job daily. Ask your child what jobs sound interesting to him/her as they continue to learn about the many and varied careers in our world!
MAP Testing - Your school counselors are co-leading the 3rd-5th grade state assessment at Siegrist Elementary with our administration. If you are aware of an absence for your child for any of the sessions, please let your child’s teacher know so we can proactively create a plan to ensure all students in grades 3-5 are tested.
Siegrist Step Up Day- In May your child will visit a classroom/teacher in the next grade level to learn about curriculum, special trips and events, as well as know where the classrooms are and meet some of the teachers. Your child’s counselors lead and work with staff building-wide to make this happen!
Spring School Counseling Advisory - The school counseling program holds both a fall and spring School Counseling Advisory meeting. In the fall we discuss the goals, vision and work of the program and then in the spring look at data, and the work from throughout the year. The team is made up of parents, administration, teachers, a school board member, business partners and upper elementary students. Our Spring meeting is May 22. Please reach out to us if you would be interested in participating in future meetings for the 25-26 school year.

This online shopping program allows supporters to earn money for our school at no cost or risk by shopping with over 350 major retailers, including Walmart, Kohl’s, Shop Disney, GameStop, and Family Book Store.
Funds raised will directly support classroom projects. Additionally, supporters can donate Caring For Classrooms gift cards, which teachers can redeem for school supplies, books, arts & crafts, games, and more.
Shopping through SchoolStore.com is an easy, safe, and fun way to support our students and teachers while making everyday purchases all year!
Has your child visited the nurse?
We understand that students may occasionally feel unwell, fatigued, or overwhelmed by schoolwork or tests, and may contact their parent/guardian to be picked up. However, we encourage parents to ensure that their child has been seen by the school nurse before deciding to pick them up.
It’s essential to keep healthy students in school, where they can continue to learn and engage with their peers. The school nurse plays a key role in evaluating your child’s condition, helping to determine whether they are truly ill, and ensuring they receive appropriate care.
Additionally, these evaluations allow our health services team to monitor any illnesses or potential outbreaks in the building and across the district. Your cooperation helps us maintain a healthy and safe environment for all students.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn!

Introducing: A Healthy Lifestyle Program for Rural Families
Parents modeling healthy habits make a big impact on their kids and communities.
The University of Kansas Medical Center's iAmHealthy Parents First Study teaches parents and kids skills for a healthier family lifestyle. Through this free online program, families have the opportunity to learn healthy eating and fun ways to stay active.
The program is actively seeking families in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Oklahoma. So far, it has collaborated with seven Missouri school districts and supported 15 families.
To learn more, visit www.iamhealthyparentsfirst.org or contact the study team at iamhealthyparentsfirst@kumc.edu. Supporting this initiative can be as easy as sharing information on social media or distributing flyers to families.
Enrollment is open for families with elementary-age children. Encourage families in your community to enroll TODAY.

Pull Together!
Dear Platte County Families,
It's time to "pull" together for a great cause! The Siegrist Student Lighthouse team is collecting pop tabs donations to support the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House. We invite you to collect aluminum tabs from any cans, place them in a ziplock bag, and send them to school with your child.
Our students will handle the rest!
We appreciate your support as we work towards our goal of collecting 100 pounds of pop tabs by the end of May. Let’s pull together and make a difference for families in need!
Thank you for your generosity!
Friendly Parent Reminders
Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.
Birthday Celebrations-Here is the district policy:
"We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. (See Snacks for more information about opportunities to share snacks in the classroom) If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class."
Transportation:
If your child has a transportation change for the day, please call the office before 2:00 PM. This ensures we can process the change in time before dismissal. You may also send a note with your child or email Anne Klopp at klopp.annemarie@pcr3schools.org.
If we do not receive a call, note, or email regarding transportation changes, we will follow the information already in our system to send your child home.
For any permanent transportation changes, please refer to the "Important Links" section below.
Additionally, please click on the "Transportation Expectations" button below to review important bus and car rider guidelines with your child.
Student Illness/Injury:
If you're unsure whether to send your child to school due to illness, please click the button below. Our nurse has provided important information on her Siegrist webpage about when to keep a sick child at home. There is also guidance on what happens if your child is injured while at school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Heather Guzman at guzman.heather@pcr3schools.org.
