Principal Update
- Happy St. Patrick's Day! "May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold—and at the end of your rainbows may you find a pot of gold."
- What an amazing and busy week we had at Reams! Read the sections below for some of the highlights and check out the pictures.
- The picture above is of recognition of our amazing custodial team, Mr. Sakhy, Ms. Yanet, and Mr. Henderson. The team was recognized as the top performing team for quarter 2. This means they are keeping our building clean and looking beautiful. Mr. Sakhy and I received it for the team on Thursday morning.
- Congratulations to Mr. Eberts for being recognized as a CCPS Game Changer this week! This is a well-deserved recognition for all of his hard work.
- We hope to see you on Wednesday, March 20th for our Mad4Literacy Family Engagement event at 6:00 p.m. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open that evening in our library.
- Spirit Days this week include: Thursday, March 21,Crazy Sock Day for World Down's Syndrome Day and Friday, March 22, Dress in Spring Colors or buddy-related clothing.
- The end of the third quarter is in one week. Please encourage your student to complete unfinished work and work hard to finish the quarter strong. All grades are due on Friday, March 22, 2024 which is also an Early Release Day at 12:55 p.m.
- Yearbooks are also prepay for $20.00 and available to be purchased through Candid Color. Visit www.candidcolor.net; Enter the code: RREYBK24. The deadline for yearbooks is March 28, 2024. Yearbooks will be distributed towards the end of May.
Book Fair and Literacy Night this week!
- Scholastic Book Fair at Reams will be March 18-22, 2024. Check out the Preview Link.https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/reamsroadelementaryschool and Sign Up Genius for volunteering at the Book Fair. Students will visit the Book Fair during their library time. They may also visit during the arrival time. Proceeds from the Book Fair supports our library.
- Mad4Literacy Night will be on March 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. There will be activities, an activity in the gym, Read to Rover activity, and snack. The Book Fair will be open from 5:45-7:15 p.m.
Arts Fest at the Library
- Visit the North Courthouse Library to see fabulous art work created by our students this month. A note went home to let parents know if a student's art work is displayed.
Read Across America Week Highlights
- Our Reading work continues with 67% of our students working in/above Lexia.
- 2nd grade won our Read Across America Olympics themed challenge and got to "race" through the school in the Closing Ceremony.
- Students earned individual medals for participating in different ways.
- The guess the Mystery Reader each morning was lots of fun!
- Rams Buddies read together and did other activities.
- Truly a great week!

Richmond Flying Squirrels Reading Program
- We will once again partner with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to encourage reading at Reams. Students will read books and note completion on a bookmark.
Reading Program Info:
Students will receive a free ticket to a Richmond Flying Squirrels game after 8 books read.
Bookmarks were sent home and will need to be returned by April 8.
Students will be able to attend the game on May 15th.
Parents will be able to purchase tickets to attend the game for $6.00.
Parents and students attend the game together. Transportation from Reams is not provided.
#Attendance Matters
- This week's overall attendance was wonderful! 4 out of 5 days had 95% attendance or better. Kindergarten had 100% attendance on Wednesday and Kindergarten, First, and Second all had 99% attendance at least one day this week. Great job!
- Can your student have 100% attendance for the two weeks before Spring Break?
Kindergarten and Pre K for next year
- We encourage our community to share information about getting ready for Kindergarten. Families can begin with the Kindergarten CCPS Website. Kindergarten Online Registration opened on March 4, 2024. We will have registration appointments for Thursday, April 17 from 8:00 a.m.-5:45 p.m. The Sign Up Genius for appointments will be available soon.
- We also encourage our community to share information about the Pre-K application process through the Pre K CCPS Website. We have two Pre-K classes with an enrollment of 18 students each.
- Check out our Pre K students with the Monacan High football players learning during their unit on balls.
Finding Nemo Updates
- Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, March 19th.
- Finding Nemo will be performed on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
Counselor's Corner
- Mrs. Brown and Ms. Neal provided class counseling lessons this week focused on Conflict Resolution. If you want to know more, check out the slide deck.
- We encourage our students to solve small problems on their own and ask for help with big problems. If small problems are solved, they will not become big problems.
- Parents can help as well by practicing conflict resolution with students.
Reams Field Day 2024
- Our Spring Field Day will be on Friday, April 19, 2024. Check out the flyer from Coach A. We will need volunteers to make this a success so please put it on your calendar! Volunteers need to make sure they are approved before participating.
- Students have brought home ordering information for this year's Field Day t-shirt which are only $8.00! Please send the forms back to Coach A by March 27, 2024.
Reams Parent Teacher Association
PTA Spirit Night in March:
- Join us for our first ever 2 in 1 Spirit Night with Mission Laser and Papa John's. It will be at Mission Laser on March 28, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Games are $12.00 a person with PTA earning $3.00 per game. Order Papa John's Pizza to have there during the fun. Pizza must be preordered by 9:00 a.m. on March 27th. Check out the flyer for more info.
PTA Meeting:
- Our next P.T.A. meeting will be Tuesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.
- PTA has discussed Skate Night in May and the beginning of ideas for May Teacher Appreciation Week. The P.T.A. will help with ticket sales for the Finding Nemo musical in March through MemberHub.
Reams Staff St. Patrick's Day Brunch:
- Thank you for all of the donations! The breakfast treats were wonderful and it made Friday just a bit easier. Thank you to Redeemer Lutheran for the donation of coffee.
