We’ve had a fun and eventful week at Hermosa School! Here are some highlights from the past few days and a look ahead:

St. Patrick’s Day Fun (Monday, March 17)
We kicked off the week with some St. Patrick’s Day festivities! Students enjoyed wearing green, participating in themed activities, and engaging in classroom fun to celebrate the holiday.

Special Guest Speaker: Scott Burt (Tuesday, March 18)
On Tuesday, we were honored to welcome Scott Burt, Head Coach of the Rapid City Rush, who spoke with our middle school students about resiliency. His message of perseverance and hard work left a lasting impact on our students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences (Tuesday, March 18)
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences. We appreciate the opportunity to connect and discuss student progress. Your involvement and support make a huge difference!

Spring Picture Day (Wednesday, March 19)

Upcoming Event: Middle School Dance (Thursday, March 20)
We’re excited for the Middle School Dance happening this Thursday from 7:00-9:00 PM. It’s sure to be a fun evening for our students, so we hope to see them there!

🎉 Family Fun Night (Begins at 5:30 PM) – Participate in a variety of games and activities for all ages.

🏀 Alumni Basketball Game (7:00 PM) – Cheer on past and present Hermosa School players in this fun-filled game!

This year's SD State Assessment dates will be March 31st - May 1st. We will have a more detailed schedule next week.

Happy 1st Day of Spring!

This week in counseling lessons we began our Mindfulness journey with Elementary, excluding 4th grade who finished their rethinking lesson with Second Step. When we are dysregulated, our first feelings and reactions aren't always right. When we rethink the situation, we can identify the real problems and change our feelings by rethinking about what has happened and better understanding the situation.

Next week in counseling lessons 7th grade will Save Sam, which is an activity based on teamwork and how it is important to work together. I like to have this lesson with 7th grade in the Spring as students grow tired of their peers—it's a good reminder we need one another!

The State Assessment is just around the corner—if you have a 3rd - 8th grader be on the lookout for the State Assessment letter. Upcoming counseling lessons will be centered around building morale toward the State Assessment, how we show school pride by trying our hardest, and why it's important we take the assessment seriously. Here's a link for a practice test at home if you'd like to see what questions are like or help your student practice if they are feeling nervous.
