SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE AN ORIGINAL VOGELTOWN LEARNER'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'respectful'.
TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been great to see the sun in the sky and the mud around the school beginning to dry up. It was also fantastic to see our parents/caregivers on the school sites for Learning Conferences. Thanks for your support in closing the school a little earlier - it really does help our kaiako to be prepared for these meetings and to fit them all in - with a couple of tea and toilet breaks!
We hope you found these conferences worthwhile. We want our partnership at Vogeltown with whanau to be genuine and to work together on learning goals for our tamariki. A reminder, please give us some feedback on our community consultation survey - see link below.
As I mentioned in the last newsletter, every term is a 'working' term at Vogeltown - however Term 2 and Term 3 are the terms where we make the most progress with our tamariki through targeted actions and deliberate acts of teaching to raise our learners achievement. We have another 8 weeks of 'solid' learning and teaching - you will notice your kids will be more tired, but this is a 'good tired'.
The Paetoki (senior) team are fully involved in the 'Build a Business' inquiry as well as speeches and Social dancing. We are aware this brings out some interesting behaviours, anxiety and stresses but these units of work help build resilience and confidence - these are traits that we promote through our school value of 'Courageous'. There is a huge sense of achievement when our learners complete these inquiries.
A reminder to our families of Yr 6 learners to be enrolled in your school of choice for next year. There are school visits and enrolment nights being advertised, so keep a look out for these.
Nga mihi nui Vogeltown whanau,
Mr O and the VS team
VOGELTOWN SCHOOL COMMUNITY 'SATISFACTION' SURVEY 2022
A massive thanks to all those whanau who have already provided feedback either by paper forms at the learning conference nights or online.
Here is the link - we appreciate any feedback to help us continue to provide the best learning conditions and education in New Plymouth.

SPARE CLOTHES
With the recent wet weather, we are finding a lot of children getting muddy during break times. We would appreciate any donations of clean, good condition trackpants, leggings and shorts in all sizes, to use for spares. It can also be a great idea to pack some spare clothes in your child's bag if they are inclined to get muddy!
LUCKY BOOK CLUB
Lucky Book Club catalogues went out to children yesterday. Online orders can be taken up until Friday 12 August - instructions on how to order online are in the catalogue. Cash orders can no longer be accepted.
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 2, TERM 3
The start of this term has been a lot better than the end of Term 2. Our average attendance for this week has been at 89.0%. Thanks to all those families who communicated with us and let us know about any covid cases within families over the holiday break.
We sent out some communication for the start of this term - especially around the 'strong recommendation' from the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to be wearing masks at school from Yr 4 and above.
Please let us know if your child has a mask exemption - you can email and let us know at office@vogeltown.school.nz or principal@vogeltown.school.nz.
See the link to our most recent covid memo below.
Please remember we are still in a pandemic and we must continue to keep being vigilant with hand washing and keeping safe.

Well done to Karaka who earned the most Whanau tokens this week!
The totals were:
Whero: 50
Karaka: 72
Kowhai: 69
Kakariki: 43
Kahurangi: 62
A total of 296 tokens handed out over the last 2 weeks!
This puts 3 of our whanau all on 17 points! Wow!
This term we have the Cross Country for whanau points and the Whanau school song sing off (this year with actions!). Watch this space!
ENROLMENTS 2022/2023
Parents/caregivers are encouraged to pre-enrol their children now for late 2022 and 2023.
If you know of any families in zone who are wanting to have a child start this year, please encourage them to make contact with the office. We would really like to have all 'in zone' enrolments by the 26 August, as this will aid our ability to plan for 2023 and the number of Out of zone enrolments we can take in 2023.
MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent or going to be late. You can report absences via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
Thanks whanau
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in.
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
Ka kite ano
