Weekly Waddle
November 1
Message From the Principal
Dear Pattengill Families,
And just like that, it’s November! It’s amazing how quickly October flew by. October was a fantastic month filled with PTA theme days, the Fun Run, connecting with so many of you at conferences, and of course, the excitement of Halloween! As we move into November, we look forward to deepening our focus on kindness, leadership, and learning. We have some wonderful activities planned to foster these values and continue building our school community. Thank you for your continued support and involvement—it truly makes a difference
Leader in Me
Pattengill is proud to be a Leader in Me school! This means we are committed to empowering our students with essential life and leadership skills rooted in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Through Leader in Me, our students learn about responsibility, teamwork, goal-setting, and more, all within a supportive, student-centered environment. Our staff believes every child has unique potential, and our goal is to help them grow as leaders who feel confident, connected, and capable. Today we began our monthly Habit Huddles. Please ask your student about their Habit Huddle leader and what they learned in this month's Habit Huddle.
NWEA
Our students completed the NWEA Map Growth fall assessment in both ELA and math. Your student's NWEA assessment data is available in MISTAR. Directions on how to access your student's NWEA scores may be found here. Additional NWEA information for parents regarding NWEA can be found here: NWEA Family Toolkit.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a safe and happy weekend!
*Reminder that there is no school on November 4th or 5th.
Proud to be your principal,

Berkley Schools Announces Varsity Tutors - Free for Students
Berkley Schools has partnered with Varsity Tutors for Schools, an online platform with access to free learning tools.
The Varsity Tutors Platform gives students more opportunities to learn at their own pace, to get support on subjects they might be struggling with, to explore subjects they are learning in class and to support their curiosities. The platform includes the following:
24/7 on-demand chat tutoring and on-demand essay review to help students with any questions about homework, classwork or test prep.
Live group classes, recorded classes and celebrity-led StarCourses allow students to learn more about the subjects they’re interested in and add a touch of fun.
Assessments and self study practice problems provide opportunities to drill skills towards mastery.
College prep & admissions resources ensure that students have the best resources available.
How to Access Varsity Tutors
Sign into the Varsity Tutors platform through the student Clever portal. To learn how to log into Clever with your child’s Berkley Schools Google account, follow these directions.

Join the Berkley Education Foundation (BEF) for its inaugural BEF Open,
an X-Golf Tournament, November 8, 7-10 pm.
Every dollar the BEF raises supports teacher innovation-grants, the free student enrichment program, student scholarships and the 8th grade college tour.
Guests will have the chance to support the BEF by playing a round of golf, being a spectator, playing golf-related games for prizes and sponsoring a game. Golfers, in teams of four, will have the chance to play 18 holes at X-Golf on a world-renowned course. Teams will play an alternate ball style game and enjoy hot dogs at the turn. The team with the lowest score will win the grand prize. Only 9 teams are left - reserve your team before they sell out. Teams can utilize mulligans and sabotages to help their scores.
Golfers can also enter the Longest Drive contest, Closest to the Pin contest and Putting Challenge. Winners take home big prizes.
Not a golfer? Come for a Friday night out!
Enjoy an evening out, courtesy of the BEF, as a spectator. For those who are not avid golfers, don't want to commit to playing 18, or have never swung a club, stop in and enjoy the party. Spectator tickets are $25/person and include appetizers, hot dogs and an opportunity to play in the individual golf competitions.

PTA Caring & Sharing
Caring & Sharing is a Berkley Area PTSA Council annual event that provides holiday gift cards to families in the Berkley School District and local Veterans. Historically, this event has been a partnership inside our schools through non-perishable food drives and PTAs purchased turkeys, extra food & fresh produce to distribute holiday baskets.
Since 2020, the PTSA Council has collected funds through online fundraising, hoping to raise as much money as possible to give families generous gift cards to purchase groceries to meet their needs.
In 2023, Caring & Sharing raised $20,420, fed 85 families, and gave over $1,000 to the American Legion. In addition to monetary donations through Memberhub, substantial donations were also received as part of the Berkley Cares Days at each school.
If you, or someone you know, are in need of assistance, please contact Mrs. Womble, Mrs. Smith, or Mrs. Klein.
We are asking for your support as we come together to help our friends & neighbors this holiday season. Please make a donation today and spread the word within our Berkley School Community!
If you would like to make a monetary donation, please CLICK THE LINK TO DONATE TO CARING & SHARING 2024
