What Every Spartan Needs to Know
Club Photo Day
February 20th will be club picture day. The schedule can be found here. Please arrive on time. If you are late to the session, you will most likely miss being in the picture. All pictures will be taken by Empire Photography in the Student Learning Center (SLC). If you have any questions or concerns, please see Ms. Fay in the SLC or email her at fays@mcfsd.org.
Senior Class Picture
On February 20th, the class of 2024 will have their class picture taken. Students will be called to the A Gym at the end of advisory.
24-25 Course Registration
Registration selections are due in Xello by 2/29.
We know sometimes Xello may give you an error. Please email mhs-studentservices@mcfsd.org if you are having Xello issues. You are also welcome to make an appointment with your counselor to discuss courses and planning. You can book an appointment here.

Juniors
Just a reminder that your spring semester grades, including conduct and effort, determine your eligibility for Senior Release next fall. As you plan ahead, here are the eligibility requirements:
- GPA of 3.0 or higher from previous term
- No unexcused absences
- 5 or fewer unexcused tardies (3 or fewer from one class)
- No behavior referrals
- May only have two blocks of senior release per year
Girls Who Code Summer Opportunity
If you know a 9th-11th grade girl or non-binary high school student, with or without prior coding experience, see the linked flyer below to learn more about a summer program for them.
Celebrations
Costa Rican Students at MHS
MHS Multicultural Club hosted a welcome gathering for students visiting from Costa Rica, who spent most of the school day with MHS students. Such a valuable opportunity to talk with them and share our school!
Girl Up Visits WIS
Some members of Girl-Up visited Waubesa to share about women in science for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11th)! They presented some information, then performed a fun elephant toothpaste demo! The kids asked STELLAR questions and were super engaged! Thanks to WIS for letting us visit your classrooms!

All questions or concerns regarding attendance/absences should be directed to Carli Cherek at cherekc@mcfsd.org or 608-838-3166 x4762.
There are three ways to report your student's absence, appointment, leaving early/arriving late:
- Enter your request directly into IC. (Instructions) -
- If you are concerned that the office staff is not receiving your IC absence request, please make sure you allow notifications for the Infinite Campus app on your phone. Once the IC request is processed you will get a notification.
- Call the attendance line directly at 608-838-4657 and leave a message. These are sent directly to our email, so we see them in real time.

🎓McFarland School Board
Summary from the 2/5/24 School Board Meeting:
In addition to their regular duties of approving minutes, staffing, and expenses, here are some highlights from the meeting:
MHS student Joseph Lewis from the MHS Connect Club provided a report from the MHS student body.
Superintendent Aaron Tarnutzer, Dr. Christine Pribbenow, and Dr. Jeffrey Lewis provided an update on the Community Impact Grant and Natural Circles of Support work in the District.
Aaron Tarnutzer and Craig Howery provided an update from the WASB State Education Convention.
Action items that were acted upon included:
One of the McFarland School Board’s biggest responsibilities is to set policy for the District. This meeting included discussion and approval regarding first reading of policies that were recommended for rescinding and revision.

Athletics
Spartan Nation Update
Boys Swimming: TOOK FIRST PLACE at the WIAA D2 SECTIONAL SWIM MEET on Saturday. The team swam very well and broke many pool records. They are now getting ready to participate in the WIAA State Meet on Friday February 16th at Waukesha South high school.
McFarland was the host of the WIAA D2 Sectional. A BIG thank you to Leah Poulos, Stu Schaefer, Kayla Eliasson, Scott Genrich and all the pool staff, along with volunteers and parents that made this event possible. It was a great event.
Wrestling: Took SECOND PLACE at the WIAA D1 Wrestling Regional Tournament. The Team qualified for Team Sectionals in Mukwonago on Tuesday, and we have many wrestlers moving onto Individual sectionals at Milton on Saturday.
Girls Basketball: Had nice conference wins over Mount Horeb and Reedsburg and is staying at the top of the Badger Small Conference.
Boys Basketball: Had a very exciting overtime win over Baraboo and tough conference loss to Stoughton.
Boys Hockey: Had a nice conference win over Reedsburg, to finish tied for 2nd in the Badger Small Conference. They have earned the #6 seed in the WIAA tournament and will take on Homestead on Thursday at the Ozaukee Ice Arena
Girls Hockey: Competed well but came up short against the Beaver Dam. They earned the 6th seed in the WIAA tournament and will take on Beaver Dam again on Thursday.
School Nutrition
Last Chance to Order a Yearbook - Order before 2/23/2024
Many people order yearbooks during registration. Our final yearbook count is due to the publisher soon! If you missed the fall order and would like a yearbook please email Sheila Fay, fays@mcfsd.org, before February 23, 2024. The $65 fee will be added to your Infinite Campus account. The fee must be paid by February 25, 2024 for your order to be guaranteed.

- During Kindness Month we want to emphasize the power of kindness. This year, we are not only celebrating acts of compassion but also taking a stand against bullying in all its forms.
Black History Month
- Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans. Let's spend time learning about incredible people and their stories of how they worked to make this world a better place for all.
Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month
- This month we think about and appreciate all of the wonderful ways CTE can help students reach their goals.
