Recently we have had a number of student successes, see newsletter items below.
Congratulations to all the students involved, we are so very proud of your efforts and achievements. Thank you to the teachers and parent supporters who have coached and mentored these young people.

Student safety is a concern for everyone:
We are very concerned about some unsafe parent driver behaviour, in particular on 6th Avenue at drop off and pick up times.
- The back entrance is a no parking zone - please do not park there to drop off students, reversing is very unsafe for students arriving on foot.
- Stopping on the road to pick up students is dangerous for the children, it causes congestion and frustration for cars behind, if there is no park available you will need to move on. Fifth Avenue has a lot more parking opportunities with more traffic movement. Parking at Memorial Park is also an option and only a 3-4 minute walk to school.
- Fifth Avenue has a no U-Turn sign by the pedestrian crossing - please follow this road rule.
- 2:50pm is a PICK UP AND GO option for junior parents (to help free up parking options). If you plan to stay and play please do not pick up until 3:00pm.
- To help make 6th Avenue safer between 2:50 - 3:00pm we are looking for parent volunteers to 'be on duty' at the crossing. This means wearing a fluro jacket and assisting any students crossing. If you are able to help out an afternoon a week please let me know: principal@tauranga.school.nz

CHOIR
Last week our school choir sang their hearts out at the Tauranga Primary Music Festival concert, where schools from around the Bay came together to sing Disney songs as a massed choir, as well as their own items. It was a wonderful night celebrating the many talents of the children performing. We had a few of our own doing solo performances. Indi-Lee and Zaylia had won solo parts to sing alongside the massed choir and Harper performed a beautiful dance solo, as seen in the pictures. Also, pictured are the TPS Choir performing their item, 'You'll Be in My Heart'. The video of this item can be seen on the school facebook page."

It’s Robin Hood and his Merry Men, though probably not as you know them. This is the town of Sherwood, but it’s Sherwood in the Hood... or "Da Hood" to be more precise. The town may be poor, but everyone works hard to make Sherwood a better place and all the townsfolk are certainly fond of their little town.
No one works harder than the head of the town, Governor Ritchy (or G-Ritchy as he is fondly called by the local gangsters) G-Ritchy is so passionate about bringing good, to "Da Hood" he has been heading a Street Art program with an aim that is clear in it’s title; “Get our Youth off the Streets and onto the Walls!”
It almost sounds like the perfect town, but not everyone is working for good. Deep in the shadows, there is darkness and mischief afoot.....

Tauranga Primary School– New 40km/h Variable Speed Limit
Tauranga Primary School– New 40km/h Variable Speed Limit
Tauranga City Council is preparing to introduce a School Zone variable speed limit outside Tauranga Primary School.
Variable speed limits on roads near schools are intended to:
· provide a safer environment outside schools during busy times such as before and after school
· remind drivers to be aware of children moving around in the area
· encourage active modes of travel (walking and cycling) to school.
Electronic signs will activate with the number 40 lit up (pictured) during peak times before and after school. This will mean a 40km/h speed limit is in place. Static signs may be used instead of electronic signs on quieter roads.
The signs will not operate during school holidays, weekends or teacher only days.
The 40km/h variable speed limit activation times for Tauranga Primary School will be set for Monday – Friday, 8:15am – 8:50am and 2:45pm - 3:15pm.
The 40km/h variable school speed zone will include parts or entirety of Cameron Road, Arundel Street, Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue (as indicated on the map below).
