The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
May is one of my favorite months of the year. Why? Because I get to witness thousands of students reaping the benefits of their hard work. Whether it involves end-of-year awards, advancement to the next grade level or graduation, I am very proud of everyone for accomplishing their academic goals.
School is quickly winding down, but we will still host plenty of activities this summer. I encourage everyone to take a look at La Porte ISD's Summer Camps & Activities page, where we have a growing list of fun summer events for your student to enjoy. The list also includes offerings from the City of La Porte. By all means, please also consider participating in the Beanstack Summer Reading Challenge. Not only does reading take you to a different place in your imagination, but the Summer Reading Challenge also offers prizes for participation.
Superintendent Shout-Outs
- Shout-out to the more than 1,000 parents and students who attended our first Summer Launch this past week. We organized the event not only to help parents prepare for the 2024-25 school year, but also to provide some fun and informative activities for our students.
- Kudos to everyone who has read leisurely throughout the school year as part of our Beanstack Reading Challenge. We have almost reached our goal of 1.5 million minutes, but time is running out. Please consider joining the fun, and helping us reach our milestone.
- A big shout-out to the James H. Baker Sixth Grade Band for earning 'superior' ratings from the judges recently at the Gator Fest Band Contest in Dickinson. This is great start as you progress to eventually becoming members of the Mighty Bulldog Band!
- Huge kudos and thanks to our awesome Career and Technical Education Department. As many students have been testing for Industry Based Certifications, the department organized multiple career fairs this past week on elementary campuses and at La Porte High School. I had the pleasure of sharing with College Park Elementary School fifth grade students about my role as a superintendent, and it was a blast.
- A million thanks to our outstanding teachers and nurses! We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week and National Nurses Week/School Nurses Day this past week, but they truly deserve praise every day of the year for all that they do to keep our students healthy and continually striving for academic excellence.
- Finally, Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms out there! Your love, strength, and kindness light up our world. Wishing you a day filled with joy and appreciation.
Thank you for all that you do. I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Help us reach our reading goal
We are getting closer to our goal of 1.5 million districtwide reading minutes for the school year (We are currently at 1,191,511 minutes.) If everyone will read 20 min each day and log that in Beanstack, we will far exceed our goal. Let's work together to achieve this milestone. Remember that readers are leaders!

CTE Dept. sponsors career fairs for elementary and graduating students
On the same day, La Porte High School CTE teachers and student ambassadors collaborated with
Bayshore Elementary School to host a Career Day. Not only did the event feature guest speakers from various fields who shared valuable insight about their careers, but CTE teachers and students brought their passion and energy to showcase the amazing opportunities awaiting students in our secondary CTE programs. Similar events also took place at College Park and Lomax Elementary Schools.

Baseball Bulldogs hand out postseason honors
The La Porte High School Baseball Team awarded several players during the annual team banquet on May 6. All District honors will be announced shortly after 18-5A teams conclude their playoffs.
(Pictured left-to-right) are David Lara, Academic All State and Cy Young Award; Carson Basile, JV Player of the Year; Triston Smith, Team Player of Year; Kylin Manning, Varsity Player of the Year, Caleb Hill, Offensive Player of Year; Matt Maduzia, Most Improved Player; Caleb Hanks, Defensive Player of the Year; and Ronan Marlar, Academic All State.
Spring Orange & White Game is in the books
Players and coaches crowded the Auxiliary Field on Thursday for the Orange & White Game. The annual scrimmage pits the offense against the defense in a game-like simulation. The Bulldogs put on the pads for a scrimmage against Pasadena Dobie on Aug. 22 at Pasadena ISD Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Bulldogs open the season on Aug. 30 against Deer Park at Abshier Stadium.
See to Succeed
Eighty percent of classroom learning is visual. Through collaboration with school nurses, See to Succeed eliminates barriers and gives students something they need to be successful -- eye glasses. A total of 65 LPISD students participated this year from four elementary schools: Heritage Elementary, La Porte Elementary, Lomax Elementary, and Rizzuto Elementary. Below are three group pictures taken on the day the glasses were delivered to their home campus.

We have a lot of fun activities scheduled for students of all ages this summer. Visit our Summer Camps & Activities page for a list. Be sure to bookmark it, as we are adding new activities regularly.
