Margaret Circle
The Margaret Circle is meeting on Thursday, Nov 3, at 1:00pm.
We will begin in our traditional way of sharing our joys and our concerns.
Katy Cardwell is doing the program and will be playing a podcast, a segment of a BBC series called "Things Fell Apart," which traces origins of some of the current culture wars. The segment she wants us to listen to and discuss is about the origins of the culture wars on abortion. It is really fascinating, and it actually shares some common threads with the controversy happening in Ocean City regarding the health curriculum. She will touch on that that from her position as recently retired OC school counselor, and a public supporter of the health curriculum that a group of parents in Ocean City have been protesting. The podcast is a half hour long.
All women of the congregation are invited.

Call for Recipes!
Gina is excited to invite the congregation to our Nov 27th "Share a beloved recipe, share your heart" service. A service where we will be Recipe Sharing and cooking up some joy, good music and thankfulness at the UU!
Gina is inviting all congregation members to please share a beloved or favorite "recipe" for the upcoming Nov 27 service!
You can email your recipe to: music@uucsjs.org
Please keep it to a maximum of one recipe per person, feel free to include a short explanation of what makes it beloved (if you like). Even if it's only because it's your favorite dish to eat! It can be sweet or savory or both!
Please send your recipes in NOW! ...and/or no later than Nov 19th! and Thank you!
Gina's family of origin is of Spanish/Cuban and Irish heritage. Growing up in a family of seven there were many traditional Cuban dishes gracing the table. Her abuelita aka Nana made the absolute BEST food. It was always a celebration when Nana came to town with her arroz con pollo, picadillo and morro. Every St Patty's day there was homemade Irish soda bread, ham and cabbage and we made the sweet "Irish potatoes" (from our Philadelphia side!).

If you have nothing in particular to announce, you will still be recognized in the Catalog for your generosity.

Judith Sargent Murray $500
Abigail Adams $300
Ray Bradbury $100

May Sarton $25
Especially if you haven’t been able to donate an Event, Service, or Item, please donate a Sponsorship. See Debbi if you’d like to buy an Auction Sponsorship!
Notes from the Board
The Board Of Trustees met last weekend for an annual board retreat. It was a productive time to get together and share ideas and fellowship. One of the many things that were discussed was how to bring more people through our doors.
Several ideas were shared and we will be looking into them as time goes on. One idea that I wanted to share with you was changing the time of our service from 10 to 11 AM. Before you start running to the exits, I wanted to convey that this is a suggestion that a few members have been talking about and wanted the board to consider. We certainly expect a lively discussion. What the board agreed to do was to have a survey sent to the members asking for their input.
Currently there are three options:
- One to change the service time on a temporary basis beginning January 1 through April 30.
- The second option to change the service time on a temporary basis beginning January 1 through June 30.
- The third option is to keep the service time as is.
In the next week or so Jess will be sending out a survey through Breeze to test the temperature of the congregation on this subject.
We always welcome any suggestions that you have not only on this topic but any topic you feel would benefit the good of the congregation.

President, UUCSJS Board of Trustees
Call to Action
Blue Jean Sunday Postponed
We are postponing the Blue Jean Sunday until March, 2023 in order to help the congregation focus on a successful auction. Another opportunity to serve is coming up on December 18 after the service. We will be moving chairs and cleaning the sanctuary floor to prepare it for re-polishing.

Worship Associates Needed!
Please consider serving as a Worship Associate! You know, the person who opens and closes every Sunday service. See Colby Tippins or Deb Dagavarian if you're interested. All ages welcome, if you can read you are eligible! We need you!

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Often the enemy of courage is not fear but our comfort zones. Yes, those regular routines support and structure our lives, but they can stifle and shrink them as well.
So this month, let’s bravely resist this seduction of routine. Your instructions are simple: Pick an activity that pulls you out of your comfort zone!
To help you on your way we’ve created a list of courageous, anti-comfort zone actions. Pick one or use it as inspiration to identify something of your own imagining. Here’s the link to the list: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ck3iHDKpGiJm_m5E2GDSAsUpqr1IMcTlzIqOAp3bMHo/edit?usp=sharing
