Principles of Biomedical Science:
We are starting the next unit in class which will focus on what happens in a morgue. Students will learn about autopsies, time of death, manner of death, etc. I know this is a sensitive topic for most students and hope you will ask them about it at home to provide support. A great way to start the conversation would be to ask to view the PLTW website so you can see the material, how it is presented, etc. In addition, we will be briefly discussing the University of Tennessee’s Forensic Anthropology Center, sometimes referred to as the body farm. The scientists have human bodies in different stages of decay and study what happens at each stage. This is helpful to law enforcement as it gives them firsthand experience in what happens when a person dies and helps them determine the time of death.
Students also made a trip this week to the dome theater at Bradley Elementary for an astronomy lesson. Have a super weekend!

Quarter 2 will include more note-taking and a switch to more instructions being given in the target language of Spanish. We will continue to supplement with Señor Wooly, but we will be utilizing the structural components through using our Savvas curriculum.

Engineering Essentials:
Students will complete Unit 1 this week. Unit 2 covers making objects move. We will review simple and compound machines as students develop and use models to represent objects and systems. Students employ experimental design to inform development of a model that represents important aspects of a phenomenon, and develop a protocol to test the function of a mechanical device compared to design criteria. Finally, students work with rapid prototyping equipment to design and create physical models.
ESL:
We will be wrapping up our study on paragraph structure with learning how to write a good conclusion paragraph. We'll put all the components together to write a final five paragraph essay.
