Weekly News, Updates, & Opportunities from SRMS
A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run
Good afternoon, Sandy Run Families,
I am very proud to say that our students' focus, attention and work ethic was exceptional this week during the ELA portion of the PSSAs. While only one metric for growth and success, we are very pleased with how well our students responded and the level of seriousness they took the exam. We also have had an exciting week of extracurricular activities as all of our sports teams had hard fought contests on the track and on the fields, while our 6th grade musical is gearing up for a great performance of Finding Nemo in early May. Please see the updates below for more information and happenings across SRMS and UDSD as a whole!
Sincerely,
Dan Ortiz

The Upper Dublin High School Theatre Department
We invite you to an afternoon of fun and entertainment on April 27th for our annual Children’s Event. This year, characters you know and love all take on the challenge to become the most Royally Talented in the land. There will be singing, comedy, and other forms of talent on display all in pursuit of the title. Will Anna and Elsa's singing win it? Or perhaps the magic act of Tigger and Eeyore? The judges: Ursula, Lord Farquaad, and Fairy Godmother, will decide with a little help from the audience. In addition to the show, this event will also feature interactive events for the whole family with our beloved characters, so you will not want to miss out on the fun! The event runs 75 minutes and is hosted in the Upper Dublin High School Cafeteria. There are two opportunities to join the party, 12 PM and 2 PM, and all tickets are sold on Ticketleap.com and we can't wait to see you there!
Celebrate a Teacher's impact with Cardinal Kudos
Show gratitude to a special teacher by giving Cardinal Kudos during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10) or as a thoughtful end-of-year gesture. Your donation to the Upper Dublin Education Foundation (UDEF) can serve as a tribute to a teacher or staff member who has made a lasting impact. Each honoree receives a certificate from UDEF and an acknowledgment from Dr. Smith. All proceeds benefit UDEF's Innovation Grant Program which supports our educators' creative ideas beyond the district's budgeted curriculum. Give Cardinal Kudos now.
Allied and Performing Arts Show
This year our Allied and Performing Arts Show is on Wednesday, May 1st from 5-8PM. Please note the change in time is 5-8PM and there will be FOOD TRUCKS at the event so come hungry!
Upper Dublin Boys Basketball Program.
We are running our 2nd annual Upper Dublin Boys Basketball Summer Camp for grades 3 - 8, Monday - Thursday, June 17-20, from 9 AM - 3 PM at Upper Dublin High School. The Upper Dublin High School Boys Basketball coaches and players run the camp and it is by far our biggest fundraiser of the year. The kids had a great time last year and we look forward to another successful camp.
My School In Motion Opportunity
As Spring begins, we are excited to partner with a group that aims to boost community engagement and fitness. The My School in Motion (MSIM) program was developed by GVF, a nonprofit with over 34 years of mobility planning expertise, to promote safety in walking and biking to school and
instruct the next generation of commuters on the value of walking and biking as an alternate mode of travel. Sandy Run Middle School has partnered with GVF to offer this program to our school.
Students, parents, and staff are invited to participate in a walking/biking audit of the streets, sidewalks, and connections around Sandy Run Middle School and critically assess their safety in facilitating walking biking to school. Members of Upper Dublin Township, the Montgomery County Planning Commission, and other stakeholders are also invited to participate to help identify the gaps in connectivity for biking and/or walking to school.
There will be a walking/biking audit on April 30 at 3:15 at SRMS for all those families and students who are interested. If you are interested in participating, please complete this brief questionnaire linked here. Thanks and we look forward to seeing many of you on April 30!
