Bordeaux Elementary School
September 8, 2024
Dear Bordeaux Families -
We made it through our first three days of the 2024-25 school year and it was fantastic. We had so much fun welcoming the students back to school. Now we’re beyond excited to welcome our newest group of students as Kindergarteners will be arriving on Monday. As with the other grade levels, we ask once again that you give your hugs and kisses at the front door and allow us to take it from there. Parents often have a harder time than the students with letting go and once the students enter our hallways, they’ll be well taken care of and loved.
For morning student drop off, please remember to continue pulling forward as far as possible, even if you’re the only car in line at that moment. This allows us to keep the roads clear. For parent pick-up, it’s important to go slow and be patient. Even on the first three days of school, we had all the students loaded and ready in about 15 minutes. School officially ends at 3:30, so by 3:45 students are pretty much loaded up and heading home. We ask that you continue modeling safe behavior by using the cross walks and waiting for the signal to cross. Please also keep the doorway clear and don’t stand immediately in front of the crosswalk. For cars, take it slow as there are a lot of little humans moving about and they can be difficult to see over hoods and bumpers.
Students will continue to head to the cafeteria after being dropped off for breakfast or quiet socializing. Classroom doors open at 8:50 and school officially begins at 9:00.
This Wednesday, September 11 is our first 2:00 early release day. Students will be dismissed at 2:00.
We want to thank all of our families for attending our wonderful Open House and BBQ. It was exciting to see returning families and to welcome our new families to the Bordeaux Elementary community. From our custodians, building staff, and office personnel it is a team effort to organize this event. A special thanks to Cedar High School who provided student volunteers, our BDX PTSO who provided the BBQ and our district Food Services department for serving the evening meal. The PTSO organization provides all kinds of events and activities for our families throughout the year. Please check our monthly calendar for upcoming events. Thank you all.
Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year? That’s just 18 days or 2 to 3 days a month. That can add up before you know it. This September Bordeaux Elementary is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with a renewed push to get all kids to school on time, every day. Research shows us that absences add up to missed learning. That’s as true for Kindergartners as it is for 12th graders. We know there will be days when your child will miss school, especially when they’re sick. But we know that nationwide, as many as 7.5 million students miss 10 percent of the school year? That’s 135 million days of missed school – and missed opportunities. Research shows us it also marks the point when students start to fall behind academically because they have missed too many days.
So this September, for Attendance Awareness Month, let’s work together as a community – school and business leaders, parents, students, teachers, doctors, neighbors – to get all kids to school – on time, every day.
The year has started out on a very positive note and this week we’ll continue with this success.
As always, it’s a great week to be a Bordeaux Bulldog!
