EHS Principal's Update:Week 1

Welcome Back!

The first week of the 2024-25 school year is upon us and we are so excited to greet returning and new enrolling students at EHS. Please plan to arrive at school by 8:15 am every day to beat traffic and to ensure that students are in class on time by 8:40 am.

During this first week of school, our staff has prepared a range of activities and lessons to help students settle in, get to know their teachers and classmates, and familiarize themselves with the school facilities and routines. Our dedicated staff is here to support and guide students as they transition into the new school year.

We encourage parents and guardians to actively engage in their child's education. Parents are strongly encouraged to regularly check PowerSchool for updates on students' progress and grades in their classes. Additionally, parents have the option to update notification settings to alert them if grades or attendance fall below parent and school expectations. To further engage in students' progress, teacher emails are also available through PowerSchool. If you need help with PowerSchool, please contact the counseling office for support with any of the features of the website. There are also links to tutorials included below.

ASB cards are on sale now at the student store for $20 through September 8th. Don't wait to but your card! Prices increase to $30 after September 8th.

NWEA testing for Math, Science, and English is on Thursday and Friday this week. Please encourage your student to do their best on these tests as they help guide teachers and staff on appropriate class placement and services. Parents, please encourage your students to eat a good breakfast this week, and to the get recommended sleep to help their performance on these important tests.

Additionally, picture days are on August 15th and 16th for 9th graders and for 10-12th grade students who missed spring picture day.

Last but not least, the fall 2024-25 athletics season is kicking off this week as Varsity football team go against Ridgecrest High School in the pre-season on August 16th. We are excited to watch our teams succeed on the field.

Every week our EHS Digital Video Production students plan, film, produce, and edit a weekly video bulletin called The Eastside Extra to keep the EHS Lion family informed. Does your student need additional social emotional support at EHS? EHS offers many on campus student support groups to support our Lions through the many issues today's teens may be dealing with. If you would like to refer your student for a student support group, please scan the QR code and complete the google form.

Some examples of Student Support Groups offered at EHS are:

Mood Group, Anxiety, Life Skills, Anger Management, Grief/Loss, Conflict Resolution, and Substance Abuse.

You can also use the form to suggest a group your student may benefit from.

Scholarships and grants are helpful ways to fund your child’s college education. They provide you with free money that can go towards tuition or other educational expenses.This year we have partnered with Going Merry to make completing the FAFSA and finding scholarships easier than ever! Please have your student go to the School Counseling Office for assistance.

EHS parents/guardians have three options for viewing their student's grades, assignments, and attendance.

1. AV High School District App (Lion Link) - This app gives you new, information, as well as your student's progress. It is available on both the Apple App Store and Google App Store. When in the app store, search for AVUHSD and download the app.
2. PowerSchool App - This app ties right into your PowerSchool Parent Portal. You will get live updates on grades, assignments, and attendance. This app is also found on the Apple App Store and Google App Store. Search for PowerSchool and use district code: NWMZ.
3. PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://powerschool.avhsd.org/public

There are some helpful links below to get your PowerSchool Parent Portal account set up for the school year.

If you need to clear an absence, please email the EHS Attendance office at ehs-attendance@avhsd.org. Make sure to include your student's name, student ID number, date of absence, reason for the absence, your name, and relationship to the student. You may also call the attendance office at 661-946-3800 Extensions 1050 (A-L) and 1045 (M-Z).
