Sand Lake Lions Roar
NOVEMBER 2024
A Letter from the Principal
Dear Sand Lake Families,
As I type this message, my phone is sharing news of an impending snow storm for the Anchorage bowl. Everything from a couple of inches to a foot of snow is suppose to come our way. Regardless of the amount, all of us knew it was just a matter of time before it arrived.
As a reminder, please make sure your children are ready for the snow, and that all of their gear is labeled. As the temperature drops, it's important your child has gloves, a hat, coat, snow pants, and boots. Not every child wants to wear all of these items each day, so when it's below zero and you don't have gloves the only option is to borrow what may be available in the nurses office. Students go outside every day, unless the temperature is colder than -10 degrees F.
I'm excited to share Sand Lake Elementary School will implement a new visitor management software system in our school beginning October 28, 2024. The Raptor Technologies safety software will add an extra layer of campus security. Upon entry, visitors, volunteers, and ASD staff whose primary location is outside of our campus must sign in using the self-serve kiosk. Starting October 28, 2024, all adult visitors to Sand Lake Elementary School will be required to present and scan a current government-issued photo ID upon entering the school. This adjustment to our visitor management policy is a significant step forward in strengthening our school’s safety protocols.
Thank you for working together to decrease the number of issues in the parking lot during drop off/pick-up times. If you are dropping off or picking up, please pull into the lot and stay next to the curb while waiting for your children. Parents should not be parking or waiting for children if their vehicle is not next to the sidewalk with the red curb. The second lane of traffic is only for cars that are moving through the area.
Finally, I'd like to thank all of the families that were able to attend Parent Teacher Conferences. If you were not able to attend, please reach out to your child's teacher for a packet of information that was shared during conferences. Now that conferences are over, please remember to check Q for updated progress reports for your children.

Linson Thompson
