ThunderRidge Weekly Update
January 24, 2025

Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
It's been a great week at ThunderRidge as we joined with our feeder schools for Grizzly Gives Week. Our Student Government has done an awesome job putting on a variety of events, and teaming with Caruso Family Charities to raise money for the Murphy family. We still have the Sadie's dance tonight, the pickleball tournament tomorrow, and bingo and dodgeball on Monday night. Tuesday we will wrap things up with the Grizzly Gives Assembly. During the assembly, we will honor the Murphy family, and reveal how much our community raised. Thank you to our Student Government for all of their hard work in making this a success. Thank you, also, to our student body and community for participating in the events this week to support such a wonderful cause.
Next week is the end of the third quarter, and progress grades will be available on Infinite Campus after 4:00pm on Friday, March 14th. As we head into the final quarter of the school year, please continue to monitor your students' progress and make sure they are using the academic supports we have in place to set them up for success.
Seniors! You're approaching the final quarter of your high school career! Make sure you are staying on track so you can finish strong. I look forward to honoring you at graduation on May 16th!
I hope you all have a great weekend. Remember to spring your clocks forward on Sunday!
Sean Patterson

Progress Check
The table below highlights where students should be in the Senior Project process. If they are struggling or confused about any of these components, please have them reach out to their English or Advisement teachers. To manage their time, Seniors should aim to have their fieldwork hours completed by the time they return from Spring Break.

Junior Timers Needed
Attention TRHS JUNIORS! Sign up to be a junior timer for the 2025 Senior Boards! This rare opportunity allows you to view the Senior Project a year before you need to accomplish it yourself. If you are interested, please scan the QR code and sign up by March 26th.
Please contact Ms. Vande Vusse if you have any questions.
Polar Plunge
Join the Polar Plunge and help raise money for the TRHS Unified Athletics and Special Olympics!
The Special Olympics provides our Unified Department with uniforms, equipment, clothing and general support. This is our opportunity to give back to them. We are participating in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge again this year on March 29th at the Aurora Reservoir. Half of all the money we raise will go back to the Unified Program.
If you would like to join our team and do the Plunge with us, sign up through the QR code below.
It's a lot of fun and Special Olympics puts on a great event.
We'll be freezin' for a reason!
Counselors' Corner
This past week in the counseling office, TRHS counselors saw 258 students to assist with academic planning and support, social emotional support, and post secondary planning.
Counselors have been busy connecting with seniors to ensure they are on track for graduation, including updates on their senior project, credits towards graduation, and obtaining community service hours. Junior meetings are well underway; all juniors should have made an appointment with their counselor to review post secondary plans and important tasks for senior year. Students should click here if they still need to schedule an appointment with their counselor.
Speaking of community service hours! Seniors must obtain 20 hours by April 1st. Volunteer opportunities can be found on the Helper Helper app, the tool that students use to enter their community service hours.
Attendance Matters!
Counselors and Administrators continue to stress the importance of regular school attendance, as regular attendance in high school improves academic performance, builds discipline, fosters stronger relationships with peers and teachers, enhances participation in extracurricular activities, and helps develop essential life skills for future success. When students miss as little as 10% of the school year, they are at risk for academic failure.
Mindful Minute: Seeking help
Seeking help when stressed in high school improves mental well-being, reduces anxiety, and promotes healthy coping strategies. It enhances emotional resilience, encourages open communication, and supports overall academic and personal growth, leading to better stress management skills. If you are struggling at any time at school, come to the Counseling office - we’re here to help!

IB Update
Last week, our IB science students took part in the annual Group 4 Project, a unique interdisciplinary experience that brings together biology, sports exercise and health science, and environmental science students to tackle real-world scientific challenges. This year’s theme, “Life on Mars,” encouraged students to explore creative solutions to how we can one day colonize Mars.
Throughout the day last Friday (2/28), students formed teams to research, design, and present projects that integrated multiple scientific disciplines. From testing energy solutions to analyzing food growth and developing sustainable living solutions, each group showcased impressive critical thinking and teamwork.
The highlight of the day was the final presentation, where students shared their findings with peers and faculty. The level of innovation and enthusiasm was inspiring, proving once again that ThunderRidge IB students are ready to make a difference in the world!
A huge thank you to our IB teachers and mentors for guiding students through the process, and to everyone who supported this event. We look forward to seeing how these young scientists continue to apply their skills beyond the classroom.
