Kura Tuatahi Toko Panui
2nd May 2024
Dear Parents and Friends of our School Kia Ora/Hello/Kamusta
Kia ora koutou,
We hope everyone has had a great break and are ready to get back into the swing of things at school.
Over the holidays new vertiface was completed in Room 5. Minor bits and pieces have been fininshed from our major property upgade. The exterior painting has recommmenced and our new outdoor seating has been installed. Thank you so much to a few dads and some grandads who have helped out over the holidays with some of this work and other maintenance jobs around the school.
During the holidays all of our teachers participated in some writing professional learning and development (PLD) through the Writers Toolbox. Our teachers will be engaged with this PLD over the next three years.
Just a reminder - Friday 31st May is a Ministry allocated teacher only day. School will be closeed on this day.
During the last week of term 1 we completed a fire drill. These practices are really important and a good reminder of what to do and where to go in the event of a fire at school. This is also a good reminder to discuss as a family what the plan is and where you will go if there is a fire at home.
Below is a summary of our schools attendance for term 1:
Attending 90% or more of the time - 75%
Attending 80% - 90% of the time - 20%
Attending below 70% - 80% of the time - 5%
Attending below 70% of the time - 0%
The Ministry of Education have put in attendance targets for 2024:
Attending 90% or more of the time - 70%
Attending 80% - 90% of the time - 19%
Attending 70% - 80% of the time - 6%
Attending below 70% or less of the time - 5%
On your HERO App you can view your children's attendance summary. This is broken down into terms and shows justified and unjustified absences. Please have a look at see at what percentage your child sits at. If they are below 90% we would like to challenge you to make attending school 90% or more of the time a big focus for the rest of the year. That means missing no more than 5 days of school per term. If a child is sick, then goes on holiday, has a couple of farm days at home etc it soon adds up to a surprising amount of absences.

FRIENDS OF TOKO SCHOOL UPDATE
Lunch Orders
Here is the link for this term's lunch orders. Please fill in the form by Tuesday of Week 2.
Thank you :)
Lunch order money must be banked in to this account;
Toko School PTA( - TSB: 153947 0019082 00)Friends of Toko School
Payments to be made by 16 May, at the latest, unless alternative arrangements have been made with Mrs Waite.
We would really appreciate your support in paying this on time or better still paying at the same time that you fill in the order form. We have parents volunteering their time to organise this and they have been spending a lot of time checking up and following up on families who have forgotten to pay. This has been quite time consuming.
I would just like to say a big thank you to our Friend of Toko School Committee who organise our school lunches. I know this is appreciated by many in the community. We are always on the lookout for extra parents to assist with making lunches on Fridays. If you have time to help out with just one lunch order, a term that would be really appreciated. Please give Annette a call in the office if you are able to help out.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES UPDATE
Pub Charities
Thank you to Pub Charities who funded just over $18000 to install our new outdoor seating. We would not have been able to complete this project without their very generous donation.
Biennial Community Survey
During Term 3 we conducted our biennial community survey. We will continue to share sections of the survey each fortnight in the newsletter. The full survey is available to read on our school's website.
11. Does your child have special needs you think are not being met?
RECOMMENDATIONS:
To continue to track and monitor children through our schools Learning Support Register.
To continue to maintain strong links with outside agencies.
To strengthen the work of our schools Learning Support Co-ordinator within our school.
To work with Te Kahui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao to develop systems for monitoring and supporting children who require extra Learning Support.
HELPING YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME
At the end of Year 4
We expect that most children will know:
- Addition facts to 20
- Mulitiplication facts for the 2, 5, 10 x tables and the corresponding division facts
- Multiples of 100 that add to 1000
Whanau Survey
This week some families will receive an app alert regarding a short survey we would like you to complete. The survey is around whanau/family and school relationships. Its purpose is to see how we are doing in showing respect for the cultural values, tikanga and language of some of the families in our community.
KUPU - WORDS
Each fortnight we will be shairng some kupu with you all that we are using in our classrooms. You may want to learn along as well. We will provide the word, how to pronounce it and how to say it in a sentence.
CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISER TOMORROW
We will be holding our postponed Wicked Wheel for the whole school in the middle block this Friday. We are asking that children come dressed in their house colours on this day. If your child was away on the last day of the term they can bring a gold coin donation to support this fundraiser. There will be an opportunity for children to purchase a chocolate bar and can a drink ($2.00 each), if they choose. Children are to bring no more than $4.00. We have a record of their money brought at the end of last term.
