Summer STEM Academy (Deadline is May 31)
Attention current 8th graders and families
The Spirit Store will be open during “Explore BHS Night” on Tuesday April 30th from 6-7:30pm. Stop by the store to get your student geared up for high school and ready to be part of the Burnsville Blaze community! We have sweatshirts, t-shirts, water bottles, blankets, hats, sweatpants, shorts, socks and more, as well as a lot of clearance items including $25 hoodies!
*Even if you are not a attending this event, please feel free to stop in and shop during these special evening hours*
The Spirit Store is located across from the Career and Guidance Office, near the Mraz Center, and is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-3:30 or order online anytime:
6th Grade Only
Take A Walk on the Wild Side
6th Grade Virtual Academy students will be spending 3 days Taking A Walk on the Wild Side at the McColl Pond ELC in Savage.
Monday, May 6th, Tuesday, May 7th and Wednesday, May 8th we will be meeting for our classes at the McColl Pond ELC in Savage from 8:00-1:00. The McColl Pond ELC is located within Savage Community Park, 13550 Dakota Ave., Savage, MN 55378.
You will need to provide your own transportation. Also, bring a water bottle and a bag lunch.
We will be spending 3 days learning about the environment, collecting weather data, and participating in a service project. This project is a hands-on STEM education program that links practical engineering skills with global humanitarian service as students build and share We Share Solar® Suitcases with schools in energy scarce regions of the world.
The We Share Solar education program serves youth twice, first as an educational experience for American youth and second as a renewable power and lighting system for youth in parts of the world that lack electricity. Here is a link of information. https://wesharesolar.org/
If you are not able to make it in person, there will be alternative things for you to do at home.
2024-25 VA Class Registration
VA class registration for the 24-25 school year will take place in late April/early May. Middle school students will receive information through their advisory time.

BHS, BAHS and ISD 191 Virtual Academy Juniors/Seniors and guests
All guests must have a ticket and be in ninth grade - age 20. There is a limit of one guest per
BHS student. No one younger than 9th grade or older than 20 will not be admitted. Guests who do not attend BHS, BAHS or ISD 191 Virtual Academy must have a guest form filled out by 4/30/2024. The form must be filled out by an administrator at the guest’s school. If the form is filled out by the BHS student or guest, it will not be valid and the guest will not be admitted and no refunds will be given for purchased tickets.
Time: 7:00 PM -11:00 PM; the doors will close at 10:00 PM. So everyone must enter by 10pm
Cost: $35 - tickets will go on sale April 15, 2024. The deadline for buying tickets is Tuesday, April 30th at 11:59 PM. The link will be posted on schoology and QR codes will be posted.
We will be providing busing again this year at no charge. New this year - option to ride the bus only back to BHS. Please use this link for more information and to sign up:

MCA Testing
VA High School Parents/Guardians
MCA testing is coming up in April. Every year, students in 10th and 11th grade complete MCA testing. Click here to learn more about MCA testing from the Minnesota Department of Education.
Virtual Academy students require transportation from a parent or guardian for testing. This year, testing will take place at Diamondhead Education Center, which is located at 200 Burnsville Pkwy, Burnsville, MN 55337. Please plan to drop off and pick up your student at DOOR 1. Students should bring their Chromebooks for testing.
10th-grade students should plan for a full day of testing (8 am to 3 pm) on April 29th. They should bring a lunch. 11th-grade students will test from 8 am to approximately 11 pm on April 30th.
Testing Dates and Times per grade:
10th grade students will take the MCA Reading test on April 29th at 8 am
10th grade students will take the MCA Science test on April 29th at 12 pm
11th grade students will take the MCA Math test on April 30th at 8 am

2024-25 VA Class Registration
VA class registration for the 24-25 school year will take place in late April/early May. High school students will receive information via e-mail.
9-12 Credit Recovery
Registration has now opened for the 2024 Credit Recovery Summer Program. Registration is completed with a student's counselor after a credit audit has been conducted. Please contact your student's counselor to register.
Attached you will find the Frequently Asked Questions document for Credit Recovery which explains information such as how to enroll, when programming will be taking place, and who to contact for more information.

Who can apply: Any student grades 9-12 that are credit deficient in at least 1 class.
Youth Service Awards Reminder
In order to qualify for service awards for InnerView, you must have all of your hours submitted AND confirmed by April 15th at midnight, for the Presidential Service Award, you must have all hours submitted AND confirmed by May 1st at midnight.
*To ensure that your hours are confirmed in time, you should plan on having your hours in at least a day before the deadline.

1. Childcare at Diamondhead Education Center On Monday April 29th from 4:45-7p Child Care is needed for the teachers' children that attend the Amplify Workshop focused on racial equality within ISD 191. Location: Diamondhead Education Center Room C2020.
2. South of the River Powwow Help is needed May 4th for different times and different activities at the South of the River Powwow at BHS. Click the link to sign up and for more information.
3. Gideon Pond Multicultural Night Friday, May 10th, 6-8 PM. This event will take a good number of volunteers to run successfully and we'd love to have some of your great students help us out. Use the link below to sign up ASAP,

4. Foundation 191 Spring/Summer Plant sale pick up help needed. Saturday May 11th we will need volunteer help to carry orders to cars for pick up from 9:30a-12:30p at Diamondhead Education Center door #9. Please contact Robbie Bunnell at f191chair@gmail.com for more information or to sign up.
5. Spring Clean Up Event Please join us for our last organized event at BHS for the school year. We will be cleaning up the campus and preparing it for the summer season. Plastic gloves and garage bags will be provided, if you would like to bring your own gardening gloves it is recommended as you will be handling trash. We will meet at door 18 at 2:40 on May 13th, after school buses will be available at 3:30. 4 hours of time will be awarded for your efforts. 6. Edward Neill Family Fun Night Edward Neill is looking for volunteers for our annual Family Fun Night on Thursday, May 16th from 5-7, with a set up shift at 4. We'll have several concessions, games, activities, a giant inflatable obstacle course, even a DJ. This is our biggest event of the year & we are in need of all hands on deck to make this an epic night - you'll even get free pizza, snow cones, and cotton candy for your service! 7. The Free Book Buggie. Each Saturday will be the Free Book Buggie book sort event from 10a-12p or Tuesday after school in C100. This event asks volunteers to count book donations, sort donated books by reading level and category, and load books into buggy for upcoming events. *Free T-Shirt available in Ms. Jackson Floback’s office

9. Peer Tutoring on Tuesdays and or Wednesdays The tutor center is seeking help on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:45-3:25, you will receive 2 hours of time for 40 minutes of work. You do not have to commit to attending each week, you must use the following link each week to sign up to be a peer tutor.
Presidential Service Award Submissions: All hours must be submitted and confirmed in InnerView by Wednesday May 1st at 12:00am to qualify for the Presidential Service Award. Mrs. Jackson Floback will submit on behalf of all students with over 100 hours of service from May 1, 2023 to May 1, 2024
