FEBRUARY 2025
February is our shortest month yet one of the busiest as we celebrated Valentine's Day, President's Day, Lunar New Year, Superbowl, Groundhog Day, Cancer Awareness and Black History Month!
(and so much more!)
NEVADA ELEMENTARY
HART ST. ELEMENTARY
Attendance Matters!
Hart St. Elementary students take attendance seriously! A presentation was provided for the students where the principal and the PSA talked about how important it is to come to school on time. They shared with the students that the more they come, the more gifts and incentives they will have at school. Students were excited for the learning they do everyday!
Rams reads on....
RAMS Readers visited Hart St. to surprise the students with a fun read by the Rams mascot! It was a fun morning for our students, where they learn the importance of reading. The students read and received a book as a gift for participating in the assembly.

Self-Efficacy door decorating contest
Self-Efficacy is the belief in one’s ability to succeed in achieving a specific outcome or reaching a goal. This includes self-confidence in one's ability to exert control over one’s own motivation, behavior and social environment.
To encourage self-confidence, we want to help students understand their strengths through positive “I Can” or "I Am" statements.
TOPEKA DRIVE ELEMENTARY
100 DAYS OF SCHOOL
Students, teachers and staff celebrated 100 Days of Schools by paying homage to 100 year old people and the number 100. It was so fun to see our students recognize and enjoy this great milestone in their education and it served as a reminder to keep their attendance up.
STEAM NIGHT
It was a rainy night, but over 300 students attended Topeka’s Second Annual STEAM Night on Thursday, February 6th. Science was everywhere on campus as our very own Topeka teachers demonstrated amazing science experiments for a captive audience. From lava lamps to buoyancy to catapult experiments, students were delighted to have hands-on experiences with science!
KINDNESS WEEK ACTIVITIES
The rainy weather could not stop Kindness Week! When the rain began, we extended Kindness Week activities to two weeks! Students participated in writing kind words and phrases in the garden to be displayed around campus, as well as appreciation messages to their families, teachers and friends. On other days, students decorated our blacktop with beautiful kindness art and danced for kindness during recess. On Read for Kindness Day, parent volunteers read books about kindness to a captive audience in the kinder yard. We hope the spirit of kindness continues even after all the activities are done.
KINDNESS WEEK - SPIRIT DAYS
The rainy weather did not stop our students from celebrating Kindness Week! Students “Dreamed of Kindness” by wearing pajamas to school, showed school spirit during “Topeka Kindness Day” and wore their sports attire to “Show Love for Your Team.” Students were so happy to participate in fun school activities and spirit days, which not only encourages them to be kind, but it also helps with attendance.
SUPERIOR ST. ELEMENTARY
Nature Park Grand Opening
February 24th marked a day of celebration for Superior Street Elementary as the school gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening of their brand-new Nature Park. There are insect hotels, bird nesting areas, a home for bees, as well native California plants. The park, adjacent to our Organic Farm, is a vibrant addition to the school grounds and promises to be a valuable learning resource and a calming outdoor space for students and staff.

Beckford Celebrates 100 Days of School!
Last, February 4th marked a huge milestone of 100 days of school at Beckford! TK celebrated this exciting day by dressing up like a centenarian. From wigs to canes, TK students had so much fun channeling what it would be like to be a 100-year-old. The Kindergarten grade level also had lots of fun participating in numerous creative activities and stations with fun ways to reinforce math skills.
Beckford loves their Spirit Days
The month of February was full of fun spirit days at Beckford. Students and staff showed their team spirit by wearing their team’s favorite jersey last February 7th. Some of the office staff sported their “Team Beckford” shirts. On Valentine’s Day everyone got to rock their best pink, red or heart outfit to celebrate love day!
Favorite Sports Teams!
Show your school spirit to wear your favorite sports teams. Can you guess which teams were the students favorites? Proud to support our local Los Angeles teams!! Go Dodgers and Lakers!
Beckford Auditorium Transforms into the Wild West!
Last Friday, February 9th the Beckford Auditorium was full of joy, smiles and love as students and families danced the night away to celebrate Valentine’s! Miss DJ Jessica played some awesome tunes and line dancing and the electric slide was a big hit! There was pizza, Subway, cotton candy, sweet treats, a cookie decorating station and lots of western themed photo opportunities. Our Beckford families loved creating beautiful memories together!
LAWRENCE MIDDLE SCHOOL
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be bringing people from all over the world to our city. Lawrence students participated in an essay contest through the American Society of Civil Engineers to write about what they would build to make the Olympics a success. In their essay, they described what they would design, how it would help the Olympics run smoothly and how it would benefit Los Angeles in the future. Congrats to Lawrence Middle School first ever Science Bowl team!
Congratulations to the first-ever team from Lawrence Middle School for competing in the Science Bowl, a prestigious nationwide competition that challenges students across a wide range of scientific topics! In this exciting, Jeopardy-style contest, students race to buzz in with the correct answers to complex science questions.
This incredible journey began when North Hollywood High School students, Connor Chang and Connor Zhao, shared their passion for science by starting an afterschool program at Lawrence. Their dedication and mentorship gave middle school students the opportunity to prepare and compete at the national level.
On February 22nd, the Lawrence MS team traveled to San Luis Obispo for their first-ever Science Bowl competition. As a brand-new team, they showed remarkable determination and skill, advancing to the second round—a fantastic achievement for their debut!
Kudos to the Lawrence Science Bowl team for their hard work and impressive performance! A special shoutout to Connor Chang and Connor Zhao for inspiring the next generation of scientists with their knowledge, passion, and commitment to learning. Keep reaching for the stars, Lawrence Science Bowl team!
