Message from Mrs. Shostachuk
Dear Central Road Families,
As we head into the last week of our first trimester, we want to take a moment to reflect on the progress our students have made since school started. It has been inspiring to see their growth, and we appreciate all the hard work put into supporting them. Also, Book Fair Week is just around the corner. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore new books and develop a continued love for reading. We too kick off our Winter Wear Drive this week.
Thank you for taking time to read our communication. If you have any questions or concerns related to the information shared, please feel free to reach out at any time. We too thank you in advance for your flexibility, patience, and partnership. Our door(s) continue to always be open to listen and work together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, November 18th.
Mrs. Shostachuk

Fall Book Fair
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. Fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits. Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: Monday November 18 - Tuesday November 26
Location: In the Library
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/cr
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair. Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever. Happy Reading!
Scholastic Book Fair-Volunteers Needed!
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Central Road this Fall! The Book Fair will run from Monday, November 18th through Tuesday, November 26th. Students will be able to shop with their class during school hours and parents are welcome to visit during conferences. Volunteers are needed for the Fall Book book fair! Please click on the following link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B054CADA622ABF49-53093396-fall#/
Volunteers will help students locate and purchase items, make wish lists, and assist in setup and break down of the event. There are multiple slots for each timeframe, so volunteer with a friend! We greatly appreciate your time!
WINTER WEAR DRIVE
Once again, Central Road is collecting clothing items to support Partners for Our Communities and we need your help! Please bring any items you no longer need to the front vestibule from Monday, November 18 - Friday, November22. Items currently needed include:
Winter hats, gloves/mittens, winter jackets, snow pants, snow boots, sweaters, sweatshirts and sweatpants. Childrens, mens and womens sizes needed. Please contact Sarah Kraft at sarahkraft1521@gmail.com with any questions.
E-Learning School Wide Practice Day
In the event of inclement weather this year, our district will be conducting an eLearning day. This will ensure that our school year ends on our scheduled date. On November 20th, we will be practicing an eLearning day at school. During this practice day, all students will practice joining their virtual Google Meet link in their classroom so that they have some experience with how they will access the Google Meet link in the event of an eLearning day. On that practice day, all students will bring home their devices, case, and charger including our K-2 students.

Parent-Teacher Conferences: 11/25 & 11/26
We want to take a moment to express our gratitude for your ongoing support and involvement in your child's education. We would like to highlight the importance of our upcoming parent-teacher conferences. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen the home-school connection. Your insights as a parent are crucial in helping us understand your child's unique needs and strengths. Together, we can discuss strategies to support their learning and development effectively. Thank you for prioritizing this important collaboration. We look forward to seeing you on either Monday, November 25th or Tuesday, November 26th. Students will not have school on these days.
Inclement Weather Plan Reminder
The weather is beginning to get cooler. Please note students will go outside for recess each day as long as it is not raining. Students should begin to wear jackets, hats, gloves as needed.
As we also approach the colder months, please take a moment to review the District’s Inclement Weather Plan. In addition to the inclement weather plan, there is also a severe cold response plan in the event that this winter brings with it the extreme wind chills. Fingers crossed for a mild fall and winter – but either way…stay warm out there!
Staying in the Flow: Maintaining Attendance Through the School Year
Now that we’re a few months in, it’s a great time to check in on your child’s attendance habits. By now, they’ve likely settled into their routine, but it’s essential to keep up the momentum. Even occasional absences can add up quickly.
A Note About Thanksgiving Week
The week leading up to Thanksgiving break is often one of our lowest-attendance weeks of the year. As learning and classroom activities continue as usual throughout this week, we encourage you to plan trips to start after the break officially begins to ensure your child doesn’t miss valuable instructional time.
Why Consistent Attendance Matters All Year
Missing just a few days each month can lead to chronic absenteeism and long-term setbacks.
It can take a student three days to make up the lost learning for just one absence.
Take Action to Prevent Absences
Schedule doctor’s appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
Watch for signs of school avoidance or anxiety—talk with your child’s teacher or counselor if you notice hesitancy about attending.
Plan family trips during school breaks to avoid unneeded absences.
