This is our last week for any Holiday Donations!
Good evening Abernethy Community,
As this is our last week for collecting all support for our Abernethy families, I wanted to share again all the different ways that our community can share this holiday season. Ms. Morgan and I met this afternoon and talked about how we are only half way to our goal for gift cards and so far I am the only one who has brought in any non-perishable food. We have twice as many families that we are excited to help support this year and we know that anything helps. If you know of a small business that you want to help support with purchasing a gift card such as a bookstore, toy shop, local grocery store or other local businesses, all will be appreciated! We are very grateful to be able to provide any amount of support to our families that we can. If you are at the grocery store and want to grab a couple extra items that can be donated to the food drive, all items will be extremely appreciated. This weekend I happened to go to Safeway and they had a promotion, buy 5 soups and get all for $1.49 each. So I threw 5 different cans of soup in my cart for less than $10.00. I also found other cost saving deals as well that went into my cart.
The Holidays can be hard. Everyone wants to be able to provide everything that they can as well as put food on the table for their family. Every little aspect that we can contribute as a community can make a difference in many of our Abernethy families. Please consider any donation that feels comfortable for your family. All donations can be brought to the office at any point this week.
Gift Cards
Ms. Morgan coordinates, through the PTA, funding field trips, after school classes, school pictures, school supplies and at this time of the year focuses on being able to provide gift cards to families who are in need. As a school we are not able to purchase gift cards, and our PTA is not able to either due to restrictions put on by governing forces. Inorder to be able to provide financial support for our families, we are asking for gift card donations. Ms. Morgan accounts for all gift cards and splits the total amount received with all families that she is working with.
Non-Perishable Food
We have boxes in the office for anyone who wants to send in anything to donate. Big or small, all items help. We want to be able to send our families home with food for the holiday break. Specific items can be:
Canned:
- beans - black and/or pinto
- tomatoes
- corn
- fruits
- soups
Oatmeal
Granola bars
Pasta
Rice
Flour
Sugar
Vegetable Oil
Dried beans

Winter Clothes
Do you have any outgrown clothes that we can stock the health room with? With the rain and mud, a number of students will come to the health room for a change of clothes. Since the season has turned cold an rainy, we have already gone though a good share of what we had built up. We are currently seeking donations of clean, gently used clothing to ensure that all our students have access to clean and appropriate clothing during the school day.
Needed Items & Sizes:
Pants: Long pants in kids sizes small, medium, large, and extra-large
Tops: Long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters in kids sizes medium, large, and extra-large
Please drop off items to the school office.
