Fenn Elementary School Newsletter
May 2023
Fenn Families,
As we plan for the winding down of the school year, please be sure to read through our last newsletter for any updates. We are very excited about our end-of-year field day. We hope for some amazing weather as we celebrate the year's end and continue making memories for our students and staff. On behalf of my entire staff, I hope this was a memorable year for you and your child at Fenn.
To our 5th graders heading to middle school...KEEP working hard. The 3 R's will never leave you (respectful, responsible, ready), and they will continue through your life as you become positive citizens of our community and the world. You heard this message as we've had various guests present for our students of the month. You will do wonderful things as you progress through your educational career here in Medina. I cannot wait to see the great things you will accomplish and I will cheer you on along the way. You have been a wonderful class to be around and you will be missed.
I hope everyone has a great summer and enjoy the summer break!

The Hive School Store
We would really love to continue sustaining our amazing store and would appreciate any donations you could provide. We could use any toy donations of new or like new toys, stuffed animals, etc. We would also greatly appreciate any candy donations for a section of our store. Thank you for any donations you could provide. Please send any donations with your child or drop off to our main office.
Respectful
Responsible
Ready
Students are continually rewarded for demonstrating our 3 R's. Students are encouraged to make choices that show our 3 R's from our school-wide PBIS initiatives. Points are given to students from any staff member for making positive choices anywhere in the building. With the addition to our school PBIS store, "The Hive", students will now be able to use their earned points to purchase items in the store. Teachers have also utilized classroom stores and have provided students opportunities to purchase classroom items as well.
We are excited for all of these opportunities and again thank our PTO for their contributions to help kick off our school-wide store and in supporting all of our PBIS initiatives.
Below is our behavior matrix for Sidney Fenn. This matrix defines desired behavior, the different locations in our building and an overview of the 3 R's.
Attending field trips
If you are interested in helping out on a field trip, or volunteering to work with students in a classroom, please go to our website to learn about volunteering and to begin the process. It can take up to a month or more for the process to be finalized, so we recommend that you start the process as soon as you can. The good thing is, once you are approved, it lasts for 5 years so you won't have to repeat the process for a while. Thank you!
Snacks and treats for students (Repeat item with update)
Unfortunately, if a treat is sent in for a birthday, it will be returned by being sent home with the child or by not accepting the treat from the person delivering. Thank you for your understanding and we still hope to make a birthday celebration for your child a special one.
Front Entrance Parking Lot/Traffic and Safety
Our front parking lot is busy at the end of the day. We have many students and parents traveling through the lot at dismissal time. Please follow the expectations below to ensure student safety:
DO NOT Double Park or park along a curb. If there are not available parking spaces, you need to park in other locations (HS lot across the street, tennis court lot, west side of school along Spring Groveā¦)
Bus dismissal is the priority. When we get the buses going early, traffic is light. Please do not criticize the safety guards on duty, they are focusing on crossing students and families.
DO NOT leave cars running and unattended; this is unsafe.
When buses are present in the front entrance of the school during the morning and afternoon, please do not drop off or pick up until buses have left.
Please DO NOT bring animals with you to drop off or pick up. We have many students with allergies as well as fear of dogs. Please leave all pets either at home or in your vehicle during this time.
Covid Updates
Are students required to be masked days 6-10?
No, they are recommended and encouraged. Per the CDC, individuals should wear a well-fitting mask if they have symptoms of COVID-19, if they had a positive SARS-CoV-2 test in the past 10 days, or if they had recent exposure to someone with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
In general kids can come to school as long as they are feeling well unless they have tested positive for COVID. If a student tests positive for COVID, they have to stay home 5 days from symptom onset (symptom onset is day 0). On Day 6, as long as the student is feeling well, and has been fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, they may return to school. Again, any individuals that have been COVID positive should wear a mask from Day 6 to Day 10 but are not required to wear one.
Office procedures
Please call by 9:00 a.m. if your child will be absent or tardy. Our late bell rings at 8:50 am each day. Students entering the building after the late bell will be directed to the main office before going down to their homeroom teacher.
