5th Grade Field Trip Update!
A Message From PTA
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We regret to inform you that due to unforeseen circumstances, the 5th-grade trip to NASA has been canceled. While we understand this may be disappointing, please know that our 5th grade team is actively planning an alternative trip locally and special activities to celebrate the end of the school year for our students. We will share more details soon.
Thank you for your support and flexibility. We appreciate your understanding as we work to create a meaningful experience for our students. If you have any questions, please contact us. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Red Oak Elementary PTA
From Your 5th Grade Team
Please know that even when life hands us lemons we are going to add our own dose of sugar and turn it into lemonade. We are just as sad about this as you are about this. Please know that we are working hard to make alternate plans that will be amazing too. We will have more information very soon.
Please remember that if you would like to chaperone a field trip we ask that you make sure to get your background check done early. In addition, remember that on these trips we are looking for chaperones that are willing to be responsible for a small group of students in addition to your own child. The parent volunteer application can be found on the Red Oak Elementary web site.

Focus of the Week
Math - I can generate a numerical pattern when given a rule in the form y = ax or y = x + a and graph. I can recognize the difference between additive and multiplicative numerical patterns given in a table or graph.
ELAR - I can explaining how the author has used facts for or against an argument.
Science - I can observe and describe how a variety of organisms survive by interacting with biotic and abiotic factors in a healthy ecosystem.
Social Studies - I can identify the challenges, opportunities, and contributions of people from various American Indian and immigrant groups such as the settlement of the frontier and building of the Transcontinental Railroad.
School Hours
Parents, please help us set your students up for success by getting them to school on time. School doors open at 6:50. Remember that all students have free breakfast & lunch this year! Students arriving to school at 7:40 have missed a full 20 minutes of instruction. This could more than half of the instruction time for their first class that day.
School starts at 7:20 am and students are tardy after 7:25. Every minute of instruction counts! Dismissal is at 3:05.
Important Information To Help Your Student At Home!
You may have noticed that your student does not have daily homework. The only time a student should have homework is to make-up missed work from an absence or work that was not completed in class.
Here are some suggestions if you want your student to have extra practice.
- Read daily for at least 20 minutes
- Practice fact fluency (multiplication & division)
- Check out Sora, our online digital library.
- Studyjams.com - Science review and extra practice.
Make-up missed work from an absence or work that was not completed in class will be considered homework. If your student was absent they have the number of days they were out to return missed work. For example, if your student was sick and missed two days of school, they have two days to complete the work they missed while they were out. It is the students responsibility to ask for makeup work.
