News from Dr. Holcomb
Its' May! Can you believe it?! I for one, cannot! Information about field day should have gone home in Thursday folders last week. We would love to have you volunteer. Don't forget to connect with Cassie in the office for the volunteer form so that you can be "officially official". We get approval back from the district pretty quickly but don't wait too long because they do complete a background check.
We have completed our ISASP testing and were able to test 100% of our students! It took us to the very last day but we did it!
This month during our Character Strong time, grade levels are learning about Creativity! The various grade levels will be focusing on the following:
Kindergarten--Students will identify emotions they might feel in various scenarios and plan their reactions; they will practice identifying emotions with a partner by creatively drawing a picture, they will review emotions while practicing creativity through art and dance, and they will create something with a small group that be used to help others and identify their emotions during different stages of the task.
1st grade--Students review emotion awareness and work in groups to Creatively show their understanding, they will identify emotions using creativity to design and Emotion Map, they will produce creative works of art using limiting instructions, and they will practice creative thinking and problem solving.
2nd grade--Students will think creatively to generate unique coping strategies, they will identify and practice using movement regulation strategies, they will identify and practice breathing regulation strategies, and they will act out the different emotional elements and ways to regulate emotions.
3rd grade--Students will apply a formula for creative problem-solving, empowering them to advocate for their needs, they will learn about mixed emotions and how to creatively express how they feel, they will show creativity advocating for themselves after the game, and they will create an emotion mind map and share it with a small group.
4th grade--Students will create a collage of memories from their lives and add positive self-talk statements to each, they will use creativity to create a positive self-talk project, they will use creativity to make a positive self-talk tool, and they will practice using positive self-talk by creating a project for their future selves.
5th grade--Students will engage in creative activities of their choice that can help manage stress, they will work together to creatively solve problems to manage stress proactively and reactively, they will rotate through stations to practice critical thinking, creativity, and stress management strategies.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education.
