LUNCHES, SNACKS, AND BACKPACKS DURING STAAR TESTING DAYS
Lunches
- We highly encourage students to bring their lunch or buy a lunch in the cafeteria during STAAR testing days. Lunches WILL NOT be on a normal schedule and students are very likely to eat at an unpredictable time. For example, a student who normally eats "A" lunch, might eat "C" lunch on testing days.
Snacks
- Snacks will be allowed on testing days. However, please ensure that snacks aren't loud or distracting in nature. Please unravel snacks from their wrappers and place them in a plastic bag. Water bottles will also be allowed. Due to food allergies, please avoid snacks with peanuts or tree nuts.
Backpacks
- We encourage all backpacks to stay at home during testing days. Backpacks tend to clutter hallways and classrooms, impeding smooth monitoring. Students also tend to bring blankets on testing days for some reason. Please ensure all blankets stay at home. Pajamas are also not allowed.
Electronic Devices
- Please talk to your child about ensuring that they place their cell phones/smart watches in the appropriate designated area in the classroom. Failure to do so could cause a testing irregularity resulting in a failed test.
DRESS CODE AND WARM WEATHER
As the weather starts to get warmer, it's important to pay attention to the dress code each morning so that we can avoid any unnecessary frustration. Below are some of our most common issues this time of year:
- Shorts that are too short - Bike/running shorts
- Tanktops or other lower cut tops that aren't allowed
- Unnatural hair coloring or designs in the hair
Again, these are just to name a few. Our kids know what is acceptable and what isn't. If arms are down to the side and hands are relaxed, clothing should not be higher than the findertips.
SUBMITTING ABSENCES FOR ALL DAY
Please use the following steps to submit a Skyward absence for all day only. If you are only going to be gone for a part of the day, you can just contact the front office. Doctors notes can either be brought back to school or emailed to lbmsattendance@lcisd.net within 48 hours.
Again, this option should only be used for a full day absence:
- open the skyward app on your device
- click attendance
- click add absence request
- make sure date is correct
- make sure all day is selected
- use the dropdown arrow to select a reason
- add comments if necessary
This is the process for middle schools. We understand that the elementary and high schools may have their own process.
