Greetings, Lake Windward Families,

I hope you all have enjoyed a long President's Day weekend. Having a few days to reconnect and recharge with my family has been wonderful! It seems like yesterday my eldest son was a student at LWE, now we are going on college visits! Time truly does fly by!

I have to brag on the LWE teachers and students for a moment. Our iReady Reading scores from the mid-year diagnostic showed the highest percentage of student placement growth in the entire district! The mid-year data shows that 59% of LWE students had improved placement in reading; which is higher than over 60 other elementary schools in Fulton County. Way to go, LWE Gators!!

Congratulations to Mrs. Kristen Morgan, IRR teacher, Mrs. Michelle Thompson, 5th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Kessel, 1st Grade Teacher and Mrs. Erin Fitzgerald, MOID teacher for their nominations for LWE Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Mrs. Armida Lopez, clinic assistant, Mrs Deborah Yi, Cafeteria Manager, Mrs. Majla Alibegovic, special education paraprofessional, and Mr. Bryon Bartholomew, special education paraprofessional, for being nominated as LWE's Professional of the Year!

Congratulations to Mrs. Michelle Thompson, one of our amazing fifth grade teachers, on being named Teacher of the Year. In addition, congratulations to our wonderful cafeteria manager, Mrs. Deborah Yi, on being named Professional of the Year. Both Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Yi were nominated by their peers then completed the formal selection process at the school level. We wish them the best of luck as they compete for the district titles!

Each month as a school we focus on a different character trait. Teachers nominate students who exhibit the character trait on which we are focusing. Students who are recognized will receive a certificate to take home and a free Wendy’s card. Below are the names of students who were nominated and recognized for the character trait of Perseverance during the month of January:

We are so grateful for all of the community and staff volunteers who made our Science Night such a success. We are also appreciative of all the families who came and participated!

Students in grades 1-5 will participate in this state mandated fitness assessment. Per Georgia law, students in grades 1-3 are required to have their height and weight recorded annually and students in grades 4-5 are required to have their height and weight recorded annually and submitted to the state; along with their results from the other four components of the FitnessGram test. The following are the five components that all students in grades 4-5 will participate in:
1. PACER test (aerobic capacity)
2. 90 degree Push-Ups (upper body strength & endurance)
3. Curl-Ups (abdominal strength & endurance)
4. Sit & Reach (flexibility)
5. Height & Weight (body composition)

The window for parents and teachers to declare candidacy for their school’s SGC opened Monday, February 5, 2024. During this time, individuals interested in serving a 2-year term (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026) will need to complete a Candidate Declaration Form available on the Charter System Website. The declaration window will close on March 29, 2024. Interested parents and teachers can click here to access requirements for candidacy. We have one parent position and one teacher position to fill.
