Last Day of School - Early Release
Wednesday, June 11th is the last day of school.
Students are dismissed at 11:35am.
Fastest.Month.Ever!
Hi families!
Thank you for your continued support throughout this school year. The month of May was jam packed with learning, events, and excitement. THANK YOU to every one of you that appreciated your teacher or beloved staff members during Staff Appreciation Week. You made some well deserving staff members feel extra special!
Some highlights!
- PTG in partnership with Mrs. Phillips (our art teacher), put on a super fun art show "street party". What an amazing event for our community to connect and celebrate the arts. We have very talented kids around here!
- Early May, our PTG organized a High Interest Day for all students. It was intentionally designed for age appropriate engagement. If your child(ren) didn't tell you who/what they saw, ask them! I think my favorites were the 1st graders bakery session (the cookies were delicious), or the POUND group with the 5th graders, and the Nooks and Crannies tour for 6th graders was perfect as they complete their elementary careers!
- We welcomed families in for our Spring VIP week. It is always great to have community time when we can actively join school and home. Thank you (your parents, brothers, sisters, and extended family) for making the time to keep this event so well attended.
- We also had concerts, a track meet, a couple 6th grader teams at a Contrapt Competiton, Forward Testing, a Reading Rumble, and so much more! Check out some pictures below!
Our Wacky Olympics was supposed to be today. With the closure, we moved this event to next week Friday, June 6th! This works out perfectly with our ABC Countdown as June 6th is W for Wacky Wear Day! Be sure to dress wacky, but still cool in case it is hot out, with gym shoes and be sure to bring a water bottle.
On behalf of myself and everyone here at Clarendon, we are honored to work with you and your children!

Summer Math Resources for Students
Happy summer! Many families always ask teachers what they can do during the summer with their child to help them to continue to grow and be ready for the new school year.
According to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, games support the development of computational fluency and provide opportunities for practice. We recommend that you and your family try to play games (or variations of the games) and math activities each week to strengthen and maintain your child’s mathematical skills. K-5 Students were taught many Workplace Games (found in Bridges student workbook) throughout the school year through our resource, Bridges, that can be used for practice.
Here is another math resource for your child that will support the development of computational fluency and provide opportunities for practice throughout the summer. The summer program, called “Summer Math Adventure", was created by the Wisconsin Mathematics Council and is geared towards students in grades PK-8. You can find more information on this website: https://tinyurl.com/Math-Summer-Program
Have a safe and fun summer!

Summer Reading & Writing Resources for Students
It is important to encourage your child to read and write regularly during the summer months. You can help them review the skills they've worked hard to develop.
Use these links to find reading logs, book review sheets and book talk questions.
strategies to help them:
- Start at the left-hand side of the book and page
- If they come to an unknown word, tell them to sound out each letter.
- Then, blend the sounds together to make the word.
- Break the words into syllables
- Separate the base word from the prefix and suffix (if needed)
Other Ideas to Support Literacy Development:
- Join the Mukwonago Community Library’s Summer Reading Program
- Play ‘I Spy’ by having your child find a specific letter on an object, find something that begins with a specific sound, or something that rhymes with word
- Have students retell a story they just read (setting, characters, problem, beginning, middle, solution/end)
- Practice letter formation and/or have them write about a day/vacation/creative story
Have a safe and fun summer!

May Fun!
Reading Rumble!
Students from 4th-6th grade had the ability to sign up in teams to compete in the Reading Rumble! How did they prepare? There were 10 books. From these 10 books, the student teams were asked questions to see what they knew! Teams prepared differently - some teams spit up the reading and some teams vowed to read all 10 books to be extra prepared.
Round 1 = Grade Level Rumble! We ended this round with the top two teams from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.
Round 2 = School Rumble! The top six teams competed in an incredibly close match. I had the pleasure of MC'ing this round and I was BLOWN AWAY with what the students recalled from their reading and how quickly!! This round ended with the 5th grade team, The Dogs (pictured below) as our winners!
Last round = District Rumble! Superintendent Dr. Koch MC'ed this battle at the High School in the PAC. One team from all six elementary schools took the stage. The Dog's family members, Ms. Miramontes, Mrs. vonThun and I were there to cheer them on! All six teams were incredible. We made it on to the the second round and made us all super proud!
Don Skrepenski Track and Field Day!
Here was our CES group - they did GREAT!
May Assembly!
Gathering our CES community once a month has been a great event to look forward to! We will end our year with one more gathering to celebrate a great year and each other!
Mrs. Hansen's 1st grade class was awarded the Assembly G.O.A.T.s!
This class won the coveted G.O.A.T trophy both at the May Assembly! If you're interested, ask your student how his/her class can become the G.O.A.T.S!
Senior Tea
Super awesome welcome back to all MHS seniors that were once sitting in the seats at Clarendon. It was great motivation to see so many students with high hopes and dreams. They walked through our halls and we cheered them on (Clarence joined as well). After school, the seniors shared their next step, watched a slideshow they made as 6th graders and connected with all their past teachers.
Contrapt Competition
We had two groups of 6th graders compete in the Contrapt Competition at WCTC on May 9th! Thank you to Mrs. vonThun for leading this experience.
A total of 45 teams – consisting of three to five students each – from 14 different schools were there competing!
As part of the competition, students had to build a machine to accomplish a straightforward task in a whimsical complex way, following a strict set of parameters. The contest encourages students to build skills in engineering, simple machines, trial and error, project planning and more. It also encourages them to consider pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.
Teams were required to give a verbal presentation of their contraption and run their machines multiple times for judges. Awards were given to the top five teams. We didn't win this one, but we put forth great effort, took a risk, and had a great experience!

Wisconsin Shares Child Care Subsidy Program
Finding affordable, quality child care is a challenge that many Wisconsin families face. But it's not a challenge families have to face alone. The Wisconsin Shares child care subsidy program invests in eligible working families to help make quality child care more accessible and affordable. How? By covering a portion of their monthly child care costs. Why? Because when families get a little help — more is possible! Knowing their child is safe and well cared for, parents and caregivers can take advantage of opportunities that create strength, growth, and success.
Do you want more for your family? Take the first step and apply for Wisconsin Shares. Please find more information at Wisconsin.gov/wishares.
