Principal's Update
Dear Miller Families:
A big thank you to our amazing PTA for providing popsicle treats last Thursday! I truly appreciate the sense of community we have at Doris Miller Elementary, and I am committed to finding even more ways to bring our families together to create joyful memories with our children. Please keep an eye out for invitations to upcoming events like Family Fun Days, Miller BBQs, Friday Flag, and special events, and award ceremonies.
I would also like to recognize and thank our dedicated volunteers who have been instrumental in helping with supervision and organizing fun activities during recess. A special shoutout to Ty Dossman for launching our very first flag football zone—it was a huge hit!
We’re currently looking for more volunteers to expand our recess offerings. Our goal is to provide students with a variety of activities where they can connect with peers who share their interests. We have large fields that can accommodate volunteer-led kickball, basketball, and soccer drills. Additionally, we’d love to see creative zones for arts and crafts, chalk drawing, or even music and dancing! If you're interested in leading a station, please reach out to me at dgoulart@sandi.net for more details. If you are ready to commit, there is a sign-up Genius link at the end of the newsletter!
Thank you for your continued support!
Save the Date--Apex FUN RUN--*October 30th
What is APEX?
The Apex Fun Run is a school fundraising event that combines fitness, leadership, and character education. This is Miller's biggest fundraiser of the year! Last year we raised $26,000. We are hoping to double this amount, this year!
Apex Leadership Co. organizes the event, which includes a two-week interactive leadership program and a fun run.
Here's what happens during the Apex Fun Run:
Leadership program: Students learn about leadership, good character, and how their actions can make a difference in the world.
Pledges: Students get pledges for the laps they'll run at the fun run. Pledges can be made per lap or as a flat donation.
Fun run: Students run laps and exercises to an age-appropriate playlist around an obstacle course.
The Apex Fun Run helps schools raise money, and families can support their school by connecting their child with potential sponsors. Please stay tuned for more information.
Special Note:
* Mrs. Salinas and Ms. Shipley's class will also host their Costume parade on the 30th. More information to come.
Save the Date--Costume Parade (October 31, 2024)
This month we will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with our first-ever “Say Boo to Drugs” Costume Parade! We warmly invite parents to join us for this special event, where students will show off their costumes or school spirit wear as they take a lap around the track.
To help ensure a fun and safe experience for all, please keep the following in mind when selecting your child’s costume:
- Costumes should be G-rated and appropriate for a school setting.
- Face paint is welcome, but it must not be violent or scary.
- Masks can be worn during the parade but must be removed during the rest of the school day.
- We suggest students wear regular clothes underneath their costumes for comfort.
