Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year began Feb. 28. Enrollment for returning students will require a “snapcode” that was sent to current parents the week of February 21.

Assistant Professor of Instruction at UTD and Biomedical Scientist Vinita Hajeri, Ph.D. is actively using zebrafish to improve teacher practice and STEM proficiency of K-12 learners.

This week during their final exam period, Mrs. Jarvis's 8th grade science students learned about the biomedical research being done with zebrafish. Students observed firsthand how scientists are researching zebrafish embryos and how they play an important role in that research. Dr. Hajeri is the director of the Zebrafish Summer Institute at UTD.

Texas law (S.B. 2158) requires school districts to make inkless, in-home fingerprint and DNA identification kits available to parents or guardians of elementary and junior high students, upon request.

Parents may complete a kit to keep at home to provide to law enforcement authorities if assistance is ever needed to locate and return a missing child.

This program is an optional tool for parents to keep at home. Kits should not be returned to any RISD school or employee. Parents or guardians interested in an in-home fingerprint and DNA identification kit should contact their elementary or junior high school’s front office.

After a two year break during the pandemic, the federal government is again requiring families to sign up to receive free or reduced price school meals in the upcoming school year at most RISD schools.
