ROBINSON IS NATIONAL FFA CHAMPION
HISTORY MADE AT NATIONAL FFA CONVENTION!
-- Put your hands together, #PointerNation! Joey Robinson is the NATIONAL CHAMPION in Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance – Entrepreneurship Proficiency, becoming the first National Proficiency Champion in Mineral Point FFA Chapter's storied history! Joey began his project by changing engine and hydraulic oils, coolant, fuel filters, air filters, cabin air filters, and greasing all machines at A and R Farms. Robinson also runs his own business, where he repairs and restores parts and agricultural machinery, sometimes reselling parts for profit. Through his Supervised Agricultural Experience, Robinson has gained knowledge in billing and finance, time management, and entrepreneurial adaptability.
-- Luke Schubert is a Top Four Finalist in the Nation in Fiber & Oil Crop Production! Luke’s SAE is based on his work on Schubert Farms with the soybean crop. Luke performs many duties on the farm including tilling the soil and planting the crops. He runs combine and grain cart in the fall as well as helping to run the grain storage unit.
-- Our State Champion Meats Judging Team (Luke Schubert, Cameron Patterson, Aiden Patterson, Michael Edgington) received a Silver National Rating and all were Silver level as individuals, too!
-- The group also visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and participated the tradition of kissing the bricks.
Congratulations to all on a memorable National Convention -- you make #PointerNation proud!
DUNN SHINES IN ALL-STATE BAND
The first chair oboe in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) High School State Honors Band is our very own Pointer Josie Dunn! After months of hard work, the group held its concert at the Overture Center in Madison Thursday. Josie was also selected to play solos in all five pieces and was asked to stand to be recognized after each. Brava, Josie! You make us proud!

NOVEMBER 5 OPERATING REFERENDUM
The Mineral Point Unified School District is known for its successful robust academic and co-curricular programs, the incredible opportunities we offer to students throughout their time in our schools, and talented staff members.
In collaboration with a supportive community, the Mineral Point Unified School District has a proud tradition of providing high-quality levels of education for all students.
Unfortunately, state funding has not kept pace with increasing inflation. Six of the last 10 years, schools received $0 increase in aid. In order to stabilize funding to help ensure a promising future for all students, the District is asking local voters for an operating levy increase that will help maintain high levels of programming.
Without a referendum, our operational budget will not be able to maintain our current programs and services.
District officials made it a priority to keep the public informed about the needs prompting an operating referendum. Another Community Information Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 23 at 6 pm in the middle/high school cafeteria.
Please read more about the upcoming November 5 referendum at this website: https://mineralpointschools.org/2024-referendum/
Any questions, please contact Superintendent Mitch Wainwright at 608-987-0740 or mitch.wainwright@mp.k12.wi.us
The District wants you to have the information you need to make an informed vote in November. Thank you for your engagement.
School funding can be a complicated and confusing topic. This short video can help explain the growing challenge of supporting our students with state funding that isn't keeping up with inflation (the District has received $0 in additional state aid six of the last ten years). On their latest visit, three people commented on our students' polite behavior and excitement to check out books -- way to go Pointers!
