Making Their Mark
The steering committee at Elderton Elementary worked to implement a school-wide project promoting community involvement and spreading cheer. Each student and staff member designed a block on the walls throughout the school. Students and staff painted and decorated the blocks to represent themselves. The blocks signified that each student and staff is an important member in the school community. They helped brighten the motif of the school and created a positive climate throughout the hallways at Elderton.
The steering committee is made up various teacher volunteers from several different grades. The committee focuses on finding and implementing ways to improve the school atmosphere at Elderton Elementary. With these staff members at the helm, the future of Elderton Elementary is looking bright!

Once in a Lifetime
Written by Jaden Montgomery
Once in a lifetime,
you only get one chance,
one opportunity,
to make the most of it.
Once in a lifetime,
you make the most of it,
knowing what's been done is the path you took,
one chance, one opportunity,
that's all you get.
Make The Most Of It.
That Day
Written by Bailee Claypoole
Remember that day,
that my memories of her started to wash away
But then she came to my house,
wearing her cheetah printed blouse.
She would always cheer me up,
and she would always have tea in her cup.
“Are you ok?” she would ask.
“I can’t remember about you when I was young,” I said, grasping my hydro flask.
She would look at me with sorrow in her eyes,
Then she would tell me about when we used to catch butterflies,
All the times we fall trying to skate,
And all our fails trying to bake.
“Thank you, Gram” I’d say.
“Thank you for making this a cherishable day.”
Music Notes
This year sixth graders had the opportunity to learn about the Lunar New Year and Luogu Ensembles in music class. The ensemble includes a drummer, cymbal players, gong, and lion dancers. Students had the opportunity to learn different rhythms and playing techniques to create the music their ensemble should play to instruct their lion. They also created their own lion heads for their dancers. They completed the project by performing for 2nd grade who learned about Lunar New Year in their reading series earlier in the year.

Read Across America with Elderton Elementary
Elderton Elementary celebrated Read Across America with books, theme days, and an assembly. To kick off the week, students received a book from PTA. Smiles were seen all around as students enjoyed their reading materials. Students also had theme days throughout the week including wear crazy socks, wear pajamas or comfy clothes, and creating a wild hair-do. As students enjoyed reading time, they earned Get Caught Reading tickets. These tickets were then entered into a drawing for participation at a school-wide assembly to finish up the week. At the assembly, winners were selected, and these students got to “pie” a teacher in the face. Read Across America week was filled with fantastic books, fabulous themes, and fun!
