Our Focus on Reading and Organization
Dear Parkdale Families,
We appreciate your support at home and we are committed to providing the very best academic experience for your student. We know that a strong foundation in reading is key to success in every subject. That’s why we continue to focus on helping our students become strong readers who have the vocabulary and background knowledge needed to have meaningful conversations in areas like math, science, social studies, art, and physical fitness.
In addition to reading comprehension, we support our students with strategies to help them organize their thoughts and manage their school tasks. These skills are essential for academic success!
Thank you for your support as we work together to ensure the success of every student.

Principal

Bouldering Wall - Installed - Thank you to PTO, Matt, and Kipp
A huge shout out to Kipp Dixon, our PE teacher, for coming up with the idea for the new bouldering wall and creating the design. We couldn't have done it without the generous support of our PTO, who funded the project. And a special thanks to Matt Fullerton for rallying the parents to install it over the weekend!
Thank you Parkdale Fire for Cooking!
Again, we are so thankful for the Parkdale Fire Department team and their generosity in helping to cook at our BBQ/Open House event last month!

Thank you to our staff and families for keeping kids safe during the afternoon pick-up time. We appreciate your help when you walk to the pick up area and when you move carefully through the parking lot.

We welcome Kim Seal as our new head custodian. His dedication and skills are evident from the hallways to the flower beds! Thank you for keeping our school running smoothly and for taking such great care of the students and staff.

Annoucements
School Photos - Friday, October 11th
Picture day information, online ordering. Here is a link to the photographer's page with more information.
You can order online soon and for up to four (4) days after picture day. Or you can fill out the paper sent home with your child.
Here are some helpful tips to make picture day great!
- Wear simple clothing. Solid shirts or small patterns, along with sleeves, photograph best. A simple collared shirt is a timeless classic.
- Avoid logos and text on clothing. Graphics or wording may not photograph completely and can become partially cropped out of your picture.
5th Grade Student Leaders
We're excited to introduce a new leadership program for our 5th graders! These students were chosen for their exceptional leadership skills, which they've shown throughout the start of this school year. They'll be helping out in three key areas: assisting younger students in their classrooms, supporting our school assemblies, and organizing fun games during recess.
Vision Screening for students on Nov 6th
We are pleased to announce an upcoming vision screening event hosted by The Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation (OLSHF). The screening will happen at school on November 6th. There is no cost to families.
Ski Trip Update | Wednesday, March 19th
Our ski trip is planned for March 19th. We are excited to continue the ski trip experience. This year, the trip will be a special experience for only 5th grade students, as we align with other elementary schools. While we have previously included 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, this year’s trip will be for the 5th grade class.
Our reservation with Mt. Hood Meadows is confirmed, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic day of fun and learning on the slopes. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ll also include more details in a parent newsletter as we get closer to the event.
Arriving on time for breakfast
We are fortunate to have breakfast available for all students at no cost! Please remember to bring your students to school by 7:20 AM so they have time to finish their breakfast in the morning before classes begin.
Costume Reminder
We want to make sure everyone has a great time and some students will want to wear a costume for our parade at the end of this month. Please choose costumes that are fun and safe for all ages. Let's avoid costumes that are scary, violent, or have weapons. Thanks for helping us keep our school a happy and safe place!
Safety/Emergency Practice
Next Drill: Earthquake on Oct. 17 at 10:05 AM
Safety Drill Overview:
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. To ensure we are well-prepared for any emergency, we regularly conduct emergency drills, following the Standard Response Protocol. These drills include Fire Drills, Shelter-In-Place Drills, Earthquake Drills, Secure Now Drills, and Lockdown Drills. Each drill serves an important role in familiarizing students and staff with the proper safety procedures, helping us stay ready in case an emergency arises.
We encourage families to stay informed about these drills and the safety protocols we follow. Having updated emergency contact information for your student is important, so please let us know about any updates. If you'd like more information about the drills or safety procedures, you can visit the I Love U Guys Foundation website or reach out to our office team. Working together, we can help create a safe and prepared environment for all.

Parkdale Elementary offers space for two after-school programs this year. One program, the ExCEL program, is funded through a school-based grant and selects students based on academic need and access to educational resources.
